Eagles And A Royal Buffoon…Selah??

 Eagle

נֶשֶׁר

  nesher

Pronounced: Ne-sher

Strong’s Hebrew: 5404.

נָ֫שֶׁר (nesher) — an eagle

In Bible times, the use of familiar everyday images to assist in describing a subject someone is attempting to convey, was commonplace. Today we do the same and use visual aids, pictures and photographs with modern technology.

The Eagle Stirreth Up Her Nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings. Deuteronomy 32:11.

As the Israelites would have been familiar with eagles, Moses used them as an aid in telling the people how our Heavenly Father deals with His children.

The mother eagle watches her baby eaglet carefully;

as they grow, she stirs them up a bit first by stopping bringing food, hunger is a great motivator!

Then she removes some of the soft lining of grass and feathers to expose the sticks and thorns; so they will not be as comfortable and contented to lie in the nest.

Hence we get our saying: getting ones’ nest stirred up!

The mother then flutters over them to make them want to copy her and to use their wings as she does; the next step is she pushes them out of the nest and flies down beneath them, carefully watching them so no harm will come to her children.

When her mother eye sees the little wings growing weary, she spreads out her great strong wings; catches them and bears them back to the nest for rest. This process is repeated 7 or 8 times and the baby eagle learns to fly!

The nest is always very high to keep them safe from predators but at the same time, a fall would mean certain death, but the mother eagle knows just when it is time to shake up and nudge out the young from the nest; and precisely when to fly down to bring them back.

That is not just a pretty analogy but is what our Father does for us, He bears us on eagle’s wings. He encourages us to step out in faith and to place our trust in the knowledge that the ever lasting arms are beneath us.

Deuteronomy 33:27. The eternal God is your dwelling place, and underneath are the everlasting arms.

He knows when we are ready and He will stir up our comfort zone too!

He will never leave us nor forsake us Hebrews 13:5; but knows us better than we know ourselves and never requires of us beyond that which we can endure. 1Cor.10:13

We will not however know just how faithful He is, if we are stubborn and refuse to spread our wings and fly with Him!

The song is so true He is indeed by His Spirit/ruach, the wind beneath our wings. Acts 2:1-4

Today if you will hear His voice do not harden your heart..

Hebrews 3:15…..

Make that step of faith ….

don’t delay one more day

and you will know

His mighty presence rise up to meet you

and bear you on His wings!!

Another analogy that we can believe for as we mature is…in

Psalm 103:5. Your Youth Renewed Like the Eagle’s.

We have no doubt read or heard some of this before but for those who have not…

Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed as the eagle’s. Psalm 103:5

This is given as a promise to the righteous and

in the life of the eagle this is actually true.

An eagle lives to a very great age the longest life span of its’ species living up to 70 years. As they grow older at around 40 years of age the talons become weaker and their beaks becomes very long they are unable to catch prey and of course this impairs their ability to eat; Their wings become heavy and stick to its chest making it difficult to fly.

When this happens, the eagle has 2 options; either they will simply die or they can choose to go through a painful transition process which lasts around 150 days.

If they choose the latter, they fly away by themselves finding a secluded place on the top of a cliff and once there they knock and peck continually on a rock until the beak falls off, doing the same with the talons; this initiates a new ones to begin grow in their place.

A little like our milk teeth being replaced as we mature, and new nails growing on fingers and toes..

While the eagle is without the use of the beak and due to the lack of food as this regrowth takes place, the eagle is in fact fasting; so because of this the bird also loses his feathers.

After the new beak grows and the eagle is able to eat again, new feathers start growing, so that it looks and appears like a young eagle.

Once this transformation is completed the eagle goes forth in a new covering with youthful strength and beauty and lives to soar for another 30 years.

Again the picture with the believer is like the eagle, to discard what is worthless and to allow the process of renewal to take place.

To reach that age the eagle has to make one of the hardest decisions in life and like us, many times in order to survive we have to begin a process of change.. We sometimes need to rid ourselves of old memories, old habits and past traditions that are rooted in the old man of flesh, the carnal nature; before we were born agin by the Holy Spirit of the Living God. It is only when we are freed from past burdens that we are still dragging around with us, that we can rise up in newness of life/chaim in Messiah.

Romans 6:4 This is why a change is needed.

Our youthful strength and beauty is renewed by His Spirit, removing all of the old man and his covering, that which we have made for ourselves; and to be clothed spiritually, in His robe of righteousness and garment of salvation.

Our covering is His Blood and as we rise up, having tasted of His Word/Yeshua/Jesus; our hunger is continually satisfied by His promises contained in His Word/Bread of Lifes/Chaim.

In

2 Samuel 6:14

we read

And David danced before the Lord with all his might:

and David was girded with a linen ephod.

At the head of a great procession there would frequently be seen a half naked buffoon dancing, going through gesticulations usual on such occasions.

Many other cultures had similar people/traditions

e.g. Royal court jesters.

Forerunner of modern clowns

to provide amusement/entertainment.

More Hebrew words for

buffoon.

noun לֵיצָן. clown, jester, harlequin, fool, droll.

noun מוּקיוֹן. clown, zany, harlequin, stooge.

noun בַּדחָן   incompetent or foolish person

Buffoon. buf-ōōn′, n. one who amuses by jests, grimaces,

&c.: a clown: a fool.— ns.

Buff′o, the comic actor in an opera;

Note as with other references in the Bible, the word:

naked

is not nude it meant:

with only a loincloth;

it was never understood to be completely without any clothes. The Jewish culture was and still is for the most part, that of modesty.

Another example was when the disciples were fishing/at work, they took off their outer garments.

Just after daybreak, Jesus stood on the beach; but the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to them, ‘Children, you have no fish, have you?’ They answered him, ‘No.’ He said to them, ‘cast the net to the right side of the boat, and you will find some.’ So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in because there were so many fish. That disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, ‘It is the Lord!’ When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on some clothes, for he was naked, and jumped into the lake. But the other disciples came in the boat, dragging the net full of fish, for they were not far from the land, only about a hundred yards off.”John 21:4-8.

It was all done in honor of the person to whom the procession was made, and was the place of a slave only.

This action would never have been considered acceptable behavior by any one other than the individual designated.

King David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting and with trumpets; and David danced before the Lord,

he took the place of a slave at the head of the procession

to do honor to the Lord.

However this was not what Michal, King David’s wife saw, and not understanding her husband’s motive, she thought he had lowered himself before the people, literally behaving as a buffoon and she reproached him bitterly, and the scriptures tell us she despised him in her heart..

It’s a lesson to us not to rush to judge too quickly or too harshly until we know the full facts of a situation.

In fact we are all slaves to the Lord, servants of the most High and Yeshua/Jesus Himself said: But it must not be so among you. No, whoever among you wants to be great must become the servant of you all, and if he wants to be first among you he must be your slave

Matthew 20:26

the greatest among you is to become the servant/slave of all. But the greatest among you shall be your servant.

Matthew 23:11

I came not to be served but to serve For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many. Matthew 20:28

And finally

what is a Selah?

This word occurs seventy-five times in the

Psalms

Tehillim

תהילים

Strong’s Hebrew: 5542.

סֶ֫לָה

selah

to lift up, exalt

and three times in Habakkuk.

It is derived from a Hebrew word which means:

to be silent.

 Selah, celah,

is from the primary Hebrew root word

calah

which means

to hang,

and by implication: to measure or weigh.

Remember the Psalms were set to music Davids harp

and signifies to: pause in the singing.

Link below to more on the harp/heart strings.

Altogether

Selah-

סֶ֫לָה

is mentioned 74 times in the Hebrew Bible:

71 times in the Psalms and 3 in Habakkuk.

A similar Hebrew word is:

סֶ֫לָה

sela

which means: Rock (think Peter!)

It may come from the primary root word

Salah

סֶ֫לָה

which means: to weigh.

Selah

סֶ֫לָה

is also the name of a city

from the time of David and Solomon,

and some scholars believe it is Petra.

Because it is written so many times in the Psalms,

it is thought to direct the singer:

to pause or be silent

while the instruments played interlude.

Or in other words:

be silent and quietly listen to the music..

Or

pause and calmly think on that..

It is a great word to use when we become flustered or stressed …

we should

selah

pause and calmly think on that

that which our Father has promised us.

He said I will never leave you nor forsake you

put your trust in Me

and lean not to your own understanding……

Proverbs 3:5-8 KJV Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; And lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, And he shall direct thy paths.

Ezekiel 1:25

And there was a

How do we hear the voice of the Lord?

What does it sound like?

They heard the

It was at the sound

of His VOICE

that they

stood still

and

When they stood

they

let down their wings…

It’s a great example for us to follow

when we hear His VOICE

we need to stand

and

let down our wings.

Though seeming to be stationary, a humming birds wings are fluttering very fast and even produce a sound.

The sound of movement –

stationary

but not still,

nor silent.

We are often in the posture of quiet and yet our wings are still fluttering, beating against the air of circumstances in our lifes’ situation

and it is not the true place of…

Be STILL

and know that

I AM God/Anochi אָנֹכִ֣י
’ā-nō-ḵî

The original Hebrew Root of BE STILL- har·pū – הַרְפּ֣וּ

Psalm 46:10
HEB: הַרְפּ֣וּ וּ֭דְעוּ כִּי־
NAS: Cease [striving] and know
KJV: Be still, and know that I [am] God:

does not mean

to be quiet

as we understand in English..

It means LET GO..sink, relax

In other words, we are to LET GO and

surrender

in order to know that

God is in control as

Ribono Shel Olam –  in Aramaic (an ancient language closely related to Hebrew) means:

The Master or King of the World/Universe.

We have to

let go

in order to know and experience His saving power in our lives and that He is in control..

Butterflies,

dragonflies

insects and birds

REST.

Notice in Rest, nuwach or nuach

pronounced: noo’-akh;  נוּחַ

there are 2 of 3 symbols the same as in the word for Grace – Chen – חַוּ

and it also has the meaning of camped, enter into rest, settle, settled, space, spent, stationed, wait quietly, waited. Strongs 5117

Here in the word rest נוּחַ there is a letter Vav

in between the Chet/fence and Nun/seed

is sometimes used as the conjunction word AND   (See chart above: top line far right).

If we follow this thought, looking at the other meanings to the pictographs:

the word REST in Paleo Hebrew

could be read as:

nun vav chet translated to

Life And Separation! Wow!

Rest equals life and separation! – this surely is the abundant life for believers in Messiah as His Ecclesia/Called Apart Ones?

When insects let down their wings in

rest

they open them to receive the

sun/sons

life giving-healing rays. Mal.4:2 prophesied that believers in Messiah would receive healing from His wings.

Letting down their wings

in rest

is a visual indication of trust in the safety of that place;

they do not have their wings moving in readiness for leaving, in haste, panic or fear.

The same is also true for us.

We need to get still enough to hear His voice to receive His direction and when we don’t, we go our own way, following our own thought in the matter and the result is disastrous and many times, we have to retrace our steps or go round that mountain one more time! And sometimes this is impossible and the result is devastating.

A helpful image of this is a wave made in a pool, which will move outwards to the perimeter and then rebound and return to the place it began. It takes time to return, depending on the distance to that boundary.

The ripples on the water are unavoidable and cause and effect is a result of all action, whether right or wrong, we set in motion a series of events that can have dire consequences; affecting so much else down the road where we cannot see.

This is why we need His guidance and plan for He is the same yesterday, today and forever and He sees where we don’t. Often our arrogance, combined with self-assured, prideful, self-confident, commonsense, is a recipe for disaster; especially with a lack of spiritual maturity or simply inexperienced youth, which has a tendency to know it all.

Romans 8:5-6 – For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.

Romans 12:2 – And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Wasted energy and the time lost, plus resulting negative issues, could have been avoided

if we had simply

let down the wings of our spirit

and got quiet before Him.

Only then the still small voice of true shalom/peace

will softly break the silence

as

we wait in Him

in the shelter

of His presence/throne.

Wait I say wait on the Lord.

To wait on the Lord produces character in the life of the believer, in that it requires patience (James 1:4). Waiting involves the passage of time, which is itself a gift of God.

The word wait in the Bible carries the idea of confident expectation and hope.

Then and only then, (Ezekiel 1:20), can we go forward in the direction of His perfect will. Perfect because it is the best not only for us but also for those within the ripples created by our actions.

Those we initiate and which encompass all within our sphere of influence.

Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord! Isaiah 40:31

Perhaps we are waiting on the Lord today for some special blessing in answer to prayer.

As we wait upon God, there are plenty of things we can do to stay strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. (Eph. 6:10) our time of waiting should not be viewed as wasted time.

Yea, wait thou for the LORD. Wait for the LORD; Be strong, and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the LORD. Wait for the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart; wait, I say, for the LORD. Ps 27:14

When we are pushed or pressed into doing or making things happen on our schedule – have to do it now – it’s never the Holy Spirit. Our impatient flesh will always offer a seemingly genuine and common sense reason! Flesh seldom hears God, or obeys His timing, it’s selfish and wants what it wants.. now.

If our impatient flesh acts without the spirit of God, it will, along with ourselves, often cause others to suffer and become a casualty of our irresponsible decisions. A loving parent will never tell one child to do something that will cause problems and hurt another one of their children, especially if it’s to fulfill a personal goal or dream as the expense of the other.

He has no favorites and

The action has a reaction and these two forces, called action and reaction forces and are the subject of Newton’s third law of motion which is: For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. The statement means that in every interaction, there is a pair of forces acting on the two interacting objects. For example: If you push on anything, it pushes back on you.

A better way to say it might be:

A force is exerted by one object on another object. Or: every force involves the interaction of two objects. When one object exerts a force on a second object, the second object also exerts a force on the first object. The two forces are equal in strength and oriented in opposite directions.

Why is this relevant?

It means that everything has consequences – nothing is an island unto itself – what we do always has an effect. It’s also true of the spiritual realm, our actions and prayers have both short and long term effects.

It also activates Gods law of like for like which is the essence of an eye for an eye idiom. What we sow we will reap whether we believe it or not, we will receive that harvest. Things may roll along for a while and seem fine but we mustn’t be deceived, God is not mocked and our actions will return back to us, according to His Word.

Be not deceived, God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. Galatians 6:7

And many times the time between action and reaction is long enough that we don’t see the connection.

He did not say figure it out yourself, plan it and do it. He said wait, and our footsteps will be ordered of the Lord. Preempting His leading and timing is the enemy’s sneaky trick, for we will miss God’s best, even if at the time it seems like we did the right thing.

Our thinking, our way of being and doing, influencing and handling our circumstances directly to our benefit, never leads to His will. The world’s ways are not His ways and when one door closes, or the way forward is barred or difficult, we best not keep pushing to make one open just to get it done in our plan. The subtle danger is that the devil will always supply a solution but on his terms!

Ps 91 calls it the snare of the fowler, because its not a blatantly obvious trap.

His tactic is to catch men in his net.

The enemy plans way in advance as he covers the trap and net putting luring bait out. However, behind the scenes the enemy is there for the believers enticement and destruction.

He uses different weapons and agents in his kingdom to disturb people’s lives particularly the lives of the children of God and he is very intelligent at caging people’s destiny.

And he will supply plenty of circumstantial signs as confirmation, which is easy for him as he is master of the sense realm and is the god of this physical world.

However, the good news is that Ps 91 also promises, The Lord will keep you safe from secret traps,

IF

(conditional)

we dwell in the secret place of the Most High under the feathers of His Wings.

Many times we think we hear God and we are just hearing our own solution and maybe even a wrong whispering spirit telling us.. why wait, just do it anyway!

We lose nothing by waiting for it’s a clear demonstration of faith because His Spirit/Ruach is of Peace and patience and never pushes His way in our life.

Be still and know that I am – Anochi – God -Adonai. The revealing/apocalypse, only comes by patient, attentive, watching.

In the place of the letting down of wings…

The soul is stilled like a well-weaned child and in it we are fed and satisfied.

His presence filling our vessel so completely, that we overflow and pour out His goodness on those with who we are in close contact; as well as in our own life. And the place of His shalom becomes the place of His manifested presence.

When wings beat the air, although we cannot see it, the action moves the surrounding atmosphere regardless. Think of a fan whose blades beat the air and cause cooling streams to filter through the room. The same is true of our activity, while we continue to move, we disturb the very atmosphere, which surrounds us.

He said

BE Still

not

be busy!

Be still my soul… and as we bring the body into subjection, as we quiet the noisy tumult and detach from exterior elements that result in interference; then we can be still and know that He is God

Let Him – allow His Ruach haKodesh – to pour oil on troubled waters ..

It’s time to let down the wings of our heart and let Him in and rest in His presence/before His throne.

The Prince of Peace – Sar Shalom always moves in Peace/Shalom – never in a hurry.

A change in the way we think is the most important aspect of real repentance and of being a true disciple. When we miss it, being quick to repent and get it right. Mark gives examples of the most basic attitudes and passions that are (evil)/(out of harmony) with God and can dominate our thinking and behavior:

“. . . adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within and defile a man” ( Mark 7:21-23 ).

This is why we need HaMakom…

where Messiahs blood cries mercy and pardon and redemption. (Hebrews 12:18-25)

There is no substitute to

the letting down of wings

– spending time with Our Father, for this is how we will truly know the Voice of Adonai.

Proximity = Nearness in place, time, order, occurrence or relation. There was a time when only the High Priest could access His presence, BUT, because of Messiah Jesus/Yeshua’s sacrifice, today anyone can come to the mercy seat to be in God’s presence.

John 10:27– My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

How do the sheep know the shepherd’s voice?

He has been with them daily since they were lambs. He’s led them to their food, protected them from harm and mended their wounds. They have spent their lives with their shepherd.

Spending time with our Heavenly Father is similar to the action of getting to know the voice of a friend or relative, it starts by hearing what they are saying.

As we read the Word of God we are training ourselves to know what the Lord/Adonai has said. It enables us to know if something lines up with who He is.

He wants us to make a habit of talking with Him. This means just what it says, talk to Him which is commonly called Prayer. Prayer in essence is talking to the Lord, share with Him our heart, joys and pains and listen for His voice.

We need to be encouraged to begin talking to and with the Lord.

Spend time reading the Scriptures, share our heart with Him.

Let’s not focus on getting things from the Lord but on knowing Him…

For there are many benefits from being under the wings, and nestled within the feathers.

Healing, protection, safety, closeness, warm and being fed, as well as renewing our strength.

From this it is clear that..

in a particular place – ha makem

המקום

This place is before His throne

His throne is His presence

When we hear His voice from the expanse of the heavens

We stand still and let down our wings

In an attitude of reverent trusting shalom

It is accessed through His Mercy by

the Grace provided in Jesus/Yeshuas’ blood

and this is the secret place of the most high, when our wings are silent and still and we are safe and secure in the camp, under the canopy of His overshadowing protective love.

It’s time to trust Him

The Secret of The Letting Down of Wings

The Scriptures in His Word generate for us an environment of His Holy Spirit, Ruach HaKodesh

רוּחַ הַקֹּדֶשׁ

As we read the prophets descriptions; the pictures that are created by their words are,

 a revealing – חושף – gelah

 /apocalypse – אַפּוֹקָלִיפּסָה

of the

Letting Down of Wings.

Ezekiel 1:25-28 King James Version (KJV).

25 And there was a voice from the firmament that was over their heads, when they stood, and had

let down their wings.

26 And above the firmament that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, (אלהים) as the appearance of a

sapphire stone:

and upon the likeness of the throne was the likeness as the appearance of a man above upon it.

The throne,

has a meaning of

the place/ha makem

of His presence.

Throne: כִּסֵּא kisse or kisseh

Phonetic Spelling: (kis-say’)

Four Hebrew terms (kissē’, kissēh, môŝāb̲ and teḵûnāh),

one Aramaic word (korsē’), Aramaic כּוּרְסְיָא , ; Biblical Aramaic כָּרְסֵא

Reminiscent of the English word used in the scripture Ps 2:12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

Kiss which to us is a show of affection; here is na·she·ku נַשְּׁקוּ־ and means: do homage/worship!

Throne in Strongs: 3678 seat of honor, that which belongs to the Divine Royalty as Heavenly King.

Also in Is.6:1; Ezek 1:26 (twice in verse); Ezekiel 10:11 Kings 22:19 2Chronicles 18:18; Job 26:9Psalm 11:4Isaiah 66:1 heaven is my throne; as seat of judgment.

In Ezekiel 1:25-28 kise’ comes from the root word kacah. It is the word used for a full moon but it’s actually a loan word from the Akkadian language for a headdress or cap. Apparently the Babylonians used the word for the crown worn by the moon god.

The Hebrew word translated applies to any elevated seat occupied by a person in authority, whether a high priest, (1 Samuel 1:9) a judge, (Psalms 122:5) or a military chief (Jeremiah 1:16).

The use of a chair in a country where the usual postures were squatting and reclining was at all times regarded as a symbol of dignity and where our custom and tradition of thrones originates.

and

we as born again believers have the privilege of entering that presence/throne.

Heb. 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Mercy, means to cover, placate, appease, cleanse, cancel or make atonement for.

The presence/shekinah/glory used to be with the ark of His covenant

the mercy seat/kapporet

which was directly above the covenant commandments, (עשרת המצוות Aseret haDibrot – ten sayings) within; which may have been written on the sapphire stone of which the foundation of His presence is made.

and as Yeshua/Jesus told us in Luke 17:21 the kingdom of God is within you. That kingdom will not be marked out on any map; it is not a continent or a spatial expanse like Asia, Europe or America. It is even now in our midst, in the person and presence/throne of Jesus/Yeshua.

The being of God is the Kingdom of God and the kingdom of the heavens are within us meaning in our hearts, our inner spirit beings, this is His throne; the place-hamakem-of His presence.

We enthrone Him in the inward hidden man of our hearts.

There are several places where there are references to subjects covered in earlier posts and links are included. It is important to remember that Ruach HaKodesh builds within us line upon line and precept upon precept and as everything is connected the more we study the more we begin to see the whole picture and plan.

The Prophets Longed to See It:

Matt 13:17 Luke 10:24

1 Peter 1:10 highlights the worth of our salvation by telling us how the prophets longed to be a part of it in Verse 11: “The prophets who prophesied of the GRACE that would come to you, made careful search and inquiry, seeking to know what person or time [Messiah/Christ was indicating].

2Peter 2.Of which salvation the prophets have inquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:

Strong’s Hebrew: 2580. חֵן (chen) — favor, grace

CHARIS in Greek (χαρις)

In Hebrew, the word for grace is chen, which derives from shoresh, (a root) meaning “favor, mercy, kindness, graciousness.”

In Exodus 34:6-7, one of the great attributes revealed about the LORD/Adonai, is that He is gracious (chanun).

https://www.minimannamoments.com/13-attributes-of-gods-mercy/

The Hebrew word translated as grace is  חן hhen or chen, (Strong’s #2580) and is a two-letter parent root.

In order to uncover the original meaning of this word it is important to first examine each of the roots and words that are derived from this parent root as it is used in the scriptures, literally means favour, to bend or stoop in kindness to another as a superior to an inferior. It has the idea of graciousness in manner or action.

A second verbal root derived from the parent root חן (hhen) is חנן

(Hh.N.N, Strong’s #2603), spelled exactly the same except with the addition of the letter ן (n) at the end.

This Hebrew verb is paralleled with such ideas as healing, help, being lifted up, finding refuge, strength and salvation (literally rescue).

From a concrete Hebraic perspective, חנן (Hh.N.N without vowels,) means all of this, which we can sum up with

providing protection.

This concept becomes clearer, when looking at the ancient Paleo Hebrew Letters.

Where is it natural for us to run to for protection? Home? In the wilderness for the Israelites, it was the camp, and now we can see how חנה (Hh.N.H), the camp, and חנן (Hh.N.N), protection, are related.

Lastly we need to understand how these words are related to the parent root חן (hhen).

While finding that this Hebrew word is being paralleled with beauty. This beauty is something that is precious and graceful, which is exactly how the Hebrews would have seen the

camp of protection,

a graceful and precious place.

While these definitions do apply to the Hebrew word חן (hhen), they do not completely convey the full emotion and spectrum of the Hebrew word.
This is often the problem with translating Hebrew into English. The English vocabulary is so limited in how it can express the full meaning of a given Hebrew word which involves more of a concept and one word is insufficient.

Now we understand that this is the

Throne (place of His presence) of Grace

that we are coming into… when we come boldly, it is into a

camp of provision and protection,

where we can

safely let down our wings

and not have to be on guard.

Wow!

and what is more remembering it is also

the place – ha makem –

of the

mercy seat

and

Yeshua/Jesus atoning blood.

There is a further mystery revealed which is connected here and has also been mentioned in previous posts.

The word Racham means: tender love, deep compassion and from the word racham, comes the word rechem, which is the word for womb, they are connected in an intimate way meaning both womb and mercy.

We all have a favorite place of safety and comfort. It may be a chair, sofa, couch or bed; where we can relax completely and more easily fall asleep, because it is like a womb and we often curl up as in a fetal position, its an instinctive reflex reaction.

The only real protection for a new fragile life, is in the mothers’ womb; for the womb is a place/Makem of safety, tenderness and nurturing; where steady growth and development continues for the stages of preparation to successfully enter the next phase of the life cycle.

This is clear in Is.44:24

Rechem is integral to the female body, designed by a loving Father and it is that hidden place of the womb – Rechem – which all humanity has gone through even though we don’t remember it; but without that experience we would not be here. As the word Racham means mercies as well as womb, it also is applied for the love and mercy of our Heavenly Father.

Because of this it means the love and mercy of God is as a womb and herein is the mystery explained. For when we throw ourselves on His mercy

we enter His womb/Racham

of provision by grace.

This Racham is just as integral and important to the believer as the mothers womb is to the developing baby.

Gods’ racham is that tender love and deep compassion which causes us to be born again of the spirit and what Yeshua/Jesus was explaining to Nicodemus in John 3:38.

Remember, Nicodemus would have understood the Hebraic concept as Yeshua explained it, that the entering of the womb Nicodemus questioned, was no doubt referring to entering the camp/womb/rachem of God’s tender mercy/racham.

This rechem is the place – ha makem – which keeps us during our life with tender love.

He holds us protects us helps us grow into

the fullness of Messiah, and become all that He has called us to be in Him; and because His Mercy is everlasting, it’s always there.

The womb of His presence is always available for us to go inside, to enter in and be safe, while we are restored.

The love of God is the womb of new birth – it means that the Racham of Father is the Rechem of our redemption – spiritual new birth –

This is why the throneplace of His presence – is also linked to the Throne of Grace.

The access to His Throne/presence is by loving grace – one meaning is unmerited favor, we cant earn it – it is freely given/ offered and secondly it is a picture of a safe enclosurea camp, a protected environment within which we are secure and can grow while receiving His loving care and healing.

It’s the likeness of a womb when we enter into His presence, before the throne of that grace.

This is the place of the letting down of wings, of relaxing, knowing where we are, who He is; and that we are completely safe in the Racham of His Rechem, enveloped in His grace.

Here He loves us and ministers to us as we love Him and minister to Him.

10 Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who foretold the grace to come to you, searched and investigated carefully, 11 trying to determine the time and setting to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow. 12 It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they foretold the things now announced by those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things.…

and no small wonder when we fully grasp the picture being revealed the apocalypse of these hidden secrets and mysteries.

The prophets only saw in part and so do we

1 CORINTHIANS 13:12 NKJ 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.

The wisest of men have here but short, narrow, imperfect conceptions, even of the things round about them, and much more of the deep things of God.  Even the prophecies which men deliver by the Spirit of God are far from encompassing the whole of events yet to unfold or of that Divine wisdom and knowledge which is treasured up in the revelation of His Word. Only when we are face to face with God will we see the whole picture. Until then we will only know in part.

As the days we live in grow darker with uncertainties and instabilities abounding, Father/Avinu, is calling us to a closer walk with Him.

He desires that we NOT just visit, the secret place of Ps.91; but to stay there and abide within, keeping a constant connection and an intimate relationship. Here is Shalom – Peace, provided by our Sar Shalom – Prince of Peace. Here no dis-ease and no Ra (the opposite of Shalom) can enter in.

And we are the containers and carriers of the light that shines in darkness Jesus/Yeshua said,

“I am the light [that] shineth in darkness, and the darkness comprehendeth it not.”

That means no matter how hard it tries, the darkness cannot put out that light.

Never ever.

We can trust that His light will be there for us.

Keruvim? Not Quite Like We Imagined?

What has a flaming sword at a garden gate, a golden box, keruvim, a lion, an ox, and an eagle to do with mazzaroth, the Tribes, two visions, the mishkan and Yeshua/Jesus?

Investigating more mysteries that connect from Genesis to Revelation.

 Keruvim כְּרוּבִים

CHERUBIM

Angels but not what we thought!

Hebrew: keruvim   כְּרוּב‎ kərūv, pl. כְּרוּבִים, kərūvîm;

Latin cherub, pl. cherubin, cherubim;

Depiction of the cherubim of glory shadowing the Mercy-seat (χερουβιμ δόξης κατασκιάζοντα τὸ ἱλαστήριον) of Hebrews 9:5 (Julius Bate 1773).

In Hebraic angelic hierarchy, cherubim have the second-lowest rank according to Maimonides Mishneh Torah (12th century).

Cherubim are discussed within the Midrash literature. The two cherubim placed by the Father at the entrance of Eden (Gen. 3:24) Angels were created on the third day, and therefore they had no definite shape; appearing either as men or women, or as spirits or angelic beings (Genesis Rabbah xxi., end). The cherubim were the first objects created in the universe. (Tanna debe Eliyahu R., i. beginning).

The Cherubim angels are occasionally confused with the Seraphim rank of angels, as there are many kinds of angels; the highest being the Seraph, next the Cherub.

They are actually different categories of beings. Cherubim have four wings and do not look human, (seraphim, have six wings and also do not look human). The Bible also refers to Angels as men, since that is exactly what they look like and they do not have wings or halos, (nothing in the Bible has a halo). Angels, as their name denotes, are messengers. If a being is not delivering a message, does not look like a human male and has wings then it is not an Angel.

For one example, see Genesis 18:2 three men and 19:1 which identifies two of them as Angels. (Many scholars say that the other was pre-incarnate Yeshua/Jesus).

The Cherubim, similar to the word Seraphim, is plural. The word Cherubim refers to more than one Cherub angel.

Cherubim are said to be about 18ft (5.4864 Meters) tall have four faces:

one of a lion (representative of all wild animals , one an ox (domestic animals), one a human (humanity), and one an eagle (birds).

They have four conjoined wings covered with eyes, a lion’s body figure, and they have ox’s feet.

Cherubim guard the way to the tree of life in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3:24).

and also to the throne of God (Ezekiel 28:14-16).

Make one cherub at one end, and the other cherub at the other end: you shall make the cherubim at the two ends of it of one piece with the mercy seat. Ex. 25:19

“And the sound of the wings of the cherubim was heard even in the outer court, like the voice of the Almighty God when He speaks.” Ezekiel 10:5

A Cherub is a supernatural being referenced throughout both the Old and New Testament of the Bible. Like the Seraphim, the Cherubim were originally a Judaic rank of angels, and they eventually were incorporated into Christian scripture, appearing in numerous books including the Book of Revelation. Other notable examples of them in literature are in John Milton’s 17th century epic poem, Paradise Lost.

Cherubim are first mentioned in connection with the expulsion from Eden in Genesis 3:24 here there is no information given of their shape or form.

The Cherubim and flaming sword were to keep Adam and Eve from eating of the tree of life while in an unregenerate state; or mankind would have been forever separated from the love and blessings of the Father.

They are next mentioned when Moses was commanded to provide furniture for the tabernacle Ex. 25:17-20; 26:1,31.

God promised to commune with Moses from between the cherubim. 25:22

They represent the mercy of God, which is always above the testimony.

Exodus 25:22, “And there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubims which are upon the ark of the testimony, of all things which I will give thee in commandment unto the children of Israel.”

2 Samuel 6:2, “And David arose, and went with all the people that were with him from Baale of Judah, to bring up from thence the ark of God, whose name is called by the name of the Lord of hosts that dwelleth between the cherubims.”

Numbers 7:89, “And when Moses was gone into the tabernacle of the congregation to speak with him, then he heard the voice of one speaking unto him from off the mercy seat that was upon the ark of testimony, from between the two cherubims; and he spake unto him.”

The Cherubim are not just allegories.  They are actual beings in heaven guarding the way to the Mercy Seat.

This expression was afterwards used to denote the Divine abode and presence. Num. 7:89; 1Sam. 4:4;  Is 37:16; Ps. 80:1; 99:1.

In Ezekiel’s vision they appear as living creatures supporting the throne of God. From Ezekiel’s description of them 1:5-10;41:18-19 they appear to have been compound figures each one having 4 different faces, the face of a man, lion, ox, and eagle.

Unlike any real object in nature, possessing the features and properties of several animals.

The closest word we have to describe them is chimera; an animal whose body contains different cell populations derived from different zygotes of the same or different species, occurring spontaneously or produced artificially; i.e. an individual composed of a mixture of genetically different cells.

Man- This face spoke of mind, reason, affections, and all the things that encompass a human being.

Lion- The lion was always recognized as strong, fierce, and majestic. It was the most royal of all animals.

Pro 30:30 A lion, which is mighty among beasts and does not turn away from any;

Pro 20:2 The wrath of a king is like the roaring of a lion; whoever provokes him to anger sins against his own life.

Ox- The Ox was recognized as the animal who patiently labored for his owner. He was strong, able to bear a burden, and knew its owner.

Pro 14:4 Where no oxen are, the trough is clean; but much increase comes by the strength of an ox.

Ps 144:14 That our oxen may be well-laden; that there be no breaking in or going out; that there be no outcry in our streets.

Is 1:3 The ox knows its owner and the donkey its master’s crib; but Israel does not know, my people do not consider.”

Eagle- The divine bird that flew above the storms, while below there was only sorrows, dangers, and distress. A swift bird strong and powerful, never becoming weary.

Pro 30:18-19 There are three things which are too wonderful for me, yes, four which I do not understand: The way of an eagle in the air, the way of a serpent on a rock, the way of a ship in the midst of the sea, and the way of a man with a virgin.

Is 40:31 But those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.

Ps. 103:5 Who satisfies your mouth with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

Ex. 19:4 `You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself.

Ezek. 17:3 “and say, `Thus says the Lord GOD: “A great eagle with large wings and long pinions, full of feathers of various colors, came to Lebanon and took from the cedar the highest branch.

Hos. 8:1 “Set the trumpet to your mouth! He shall come like an eagle against the house of the LORD, because they have transgressed My covenant and rebelled against My law.

King David probably knew about God’s chariots/cherubim, as apparently he a rode in one of them.  This is recorded in two accounts in scripture, 2 Samuel 22: 7-22 and Psalms 18:6-17.

A record of a divine deliverance, when he was trapped between Mount Carmel jutting out into sea and the Mediterranean ocean as he was cornered by the army of Saul.

Two cherubim were placed on the mercy seat of the ark and two of COLOSSAL size overshadowed it in Solomons Temple.

“In the inner shrine he [Solomon] carved two cherubim of wild olive wood, each ten cubits high . . . and he overlaid the cherubim with gold.” (1 Kings 6:23-28) “The cherubim, whose wings were spread over the place of the Ark , formed a canopy above the Ark and its poles.” (1 Kings 8:7)

The illustration below depicts Solomons Temple and the Kohen Gadol (High Priest.) On the day of Yom Kippur ( Day of Atonement); he was presenting incense before God, a few steps away from the Ark of the Covenant which was resting between the outstretched wings of the towering figures of the two Cherubim. This was the only day of the year the Kohen Gadol ever entered the Kodesh haKodashim (Holy of Holies). He is shown wearing a simple linen garment specially made for the day.

The main hall of the Temple which is reported to be 20 cubits wide (9 meters or 27 feet) and 30 cubits high (13.5 meters or 40 feet).  The Holy of Holies, with the Ark of the Covenant and the two giant Cherubs in it, is described as a cube 20 x 20 x 20 cubits. 2 Chron 3:13; they stood on their feet and faced inwards their wings spanned 20 cubits overall.

Converting the measurement of the biblical cubit as approximately 18 inches, the cherubim were 15 feet tall and the wing measurement from the tip of one wing to the other was also 15 feet.

Together, the two cherubim covered a span of 30 feet in the Holy of Holiest in the Temple of Solomon.

Ezekiel 1:4-14 speaks of 4 and also this number, 4, of living creatures is mentioned in Rev. 4:6.

Those on the ark are called the cherubim of glory. Hebrews 9:5;

Hebrews 9:1-5  Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary. 2 For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein was the candlestick, and the table, and the shewbread; which is called the sanctuary. 3 And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all; 4 Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron’s rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant; 5 And over it the cherubim of glory shadowing the mercy seat; of which we cannot now speak particularly. (KJV)

These cherubim of Glory were the appearance of the Glory of the Lord.

That is the Shechinah, or cloud of glory, for on them the visible glory of God rested. They were placed one at each end of the mercy seat, with wings stretched upward, and their faces toward each other and toward the mercy-seat. They were anointed with holy oil, like the ark itself and the other sacred furniture.

The cherubim were symbolical.

They were intended to represent spiritual existences in immediate contact with The Father. Some have regarded them as symbolical of the chief ruling power by which God carries on His operations in providence. (Ps.18:10). Others interpret them as having reference to the redemption of men, and as symbolizing the great rulers or ministers of the church.

Their office was: first, on the expulsion from Eden, to prevent all access to the tree of life;

and second to form the throne

and the chariot of God in His manifestation of Himself on Earth.

He dwelleth between and sitteth on the cherubim (1 Sam 4:4; Ps. 80:1; Ezek.1:26,28).

The 2 cherubim were on the mercy-seat with wings outstretched.

Ex 25:18-20 “And you shall make two cherubim of gold; of hammered work you shall make them at the two ends of the mercy seat. “Make one cherub at one end, and the other cherub at the other end; you shall make the cherubim at the two ends of it of one piece with the mercy seat. “And the cherubim shall stretch out their wings above, covering the mercy seat with their wings, and they shall face one another; the faces of the cherubim shall be toward the mercy seat.”

They represent the judgment of God.

Their position indicates that God’s judgment upon Israel was averted because of the blood-sprinkled mercy seat.

John also in Revelation sees a vision of the cherubim:

Rev. 4:6-8 Before the throne there was a sea of glass, like crystal. And in the midst of the throne, and around the throne, were four living creatures full of eyes in front and in back. The first living creature was like a lion, the second living creature like a calf, the third living creature had a face like a man, and the fourth living creature was like a flying eagle.

The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying: “Holy, holy, holy, lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!”

Though artistic interpretation can be fairly relaxed when it comes to the Seraphim, it is also extremely varied in regard to the Cherubim.

The original Jewish depictions of them are thought to resemble an angelic or mythical being similar to that of a griffin, possessing a lion’s body, and an eagle’s wings and head.

In Christianity however, the Cherubim are often portrayed in artistic iconography as a four winged creature with more than one head, usually that of man, lion, eagle, and ox. Some of the gothic interpretations can be quite fearful in appearance.

During the Renaissance a tremendous amount of confusion arose over the attributes and characteristics of the Cherubim, when on numerous occasions they were confused with putti angels, winged children who are generally depicted holding small golden trumpets.

In Western Christian tradition, cherubim have become associated with the putto (derived from classical Cupid/Eros), resulting in depictions of cherubim as small, plump, winged boys.

So the scripture shows that a Cherub is a mighty and fearsome winged beast and guardian of Eden, not the image of an innocent childlike being. The confusion is still widespread even in this day and age, and we can blame the Renaissance artists for it. So now when we call a small child a little cherub we may want to change the adjective for something else!

In chapter 1 Ezekiel the prophet designates them as living creatures (chayyoth); the chart above shows the difference between the cherubim described in Ezekiel, with the one that John gives in the book of Revelation.

Do they appear the same on earth as in Heaven??

This is a possible explanation for the differences.

The wings being raised would cover the view of the other faces. Due to Heaven existing in another dimension parallel to ours, it makes sense that they would probably appear differently there.

Time is cyclical. Time as we know it exists only in this earthly dimension.

When we recognize the fact that God has more dimensions of space and time than just the 4 dimensions we tend to think in, it makes it easier to understand how God is able to be omnipresent and that this plural God is singular.

We tend to look at life in 3 dimensions of space and one dimension of time because of the way we have been educated.

Time, that for us, seems to travel forward and is linear.

God however, is not limited to 1 dimension of time or He would not be 1 God who is omnipresent. The chart below on the left depicts 2 dimensions of time; one of length and one of height. If time has just 2 dimensions, then within every moment of time there is an infinite amount of time. Paper, for example, is only 2 dimensional, and so we can only show 2 dimensions at once.

In the diagram above pictured on the right, simulated are 3 dimensions of time in which it implies that time has depth as well. If God is above time, at this point He can not only see the past, the present, and the future consecutively but He can also influence and interact with them all simultaneously. This is why He can say His Name is I AM (not I WAS or I WILL BE); and why He is the same yesterday today and forever. Heb.13:8

When John saw Messiah in Heaven for example, He appeared as a lamb that was slain, with 7 eyes and 7 horns.

Seven is the number of perfection and horns represent power. In the same way eyes are how we perceive things, so they represent wisdom. This is picturing Messiah with perfect power and perfect wisdom. In Ezekiel, the cherubim are depicted with 4 wings and 4 faces.

The number four is the signature of the Earth, depicting our four seasons and 4 corners giving us 4 directions; East, West, North, and South.

Ezekiel 41:18 And it (the paneling of the holy place of the temple) was made with cherubs …and two faces were to a cherub, the face of a man, toward the palm tree from here, and a young lion’s face toward the palm tree from there. It was made to continue all around on the wall of the temple.

The Keruvim/Cherubim are the connection to the flaming sword at a garden gate, a golden box (ark of the covenant/mercy seat), a lion, an ox, an eagle and the two visions of Ezekiel and John. However the conclusion to the mystery with mazzaroth, the Tribes, and Yeshua/Jesus is coming in part 2.

The Scriptures tell us that angels watch over us make sure that you are saved and that they can be of optimum assistance in your life

For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven Matt. 18:10

“Behold, I send an angel before you to guard you on the way and to bring you to the place that I have prepared. Ex. 23:20
