Who Exactly Was Cleopas?

It’s your 70th Birthday!! 
Iyyar 29, 5778 is 14th May 2018 and 44th day of the Omer.
It is 70 years since the independent State of Israel was established.
70 Years is a Biblical generation and has a significant connection to the words of Messiah Yeshua in Matthew 24:32-34: concerning the generation that would see the budding of the fig tree, (the blossoming/establishing of Israel). “Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place.” (70 years from 1948 is 2018). This could indicate that anyone who clearly remembers the establishing of Israel in 1948 will have to be 70+ years of age in 2018 and could be the generation that will ‘not pass away’, until all these things in scripture are fulfilled.
He is near, even at the door! Maybe closer than we think!
“The Israeli Declaration of Independence, formally the Declaration of the Establishment of the State of Israel (Hebrew: הכרזה על הקמת מדינת ישראל).
It was proclaimed on 14 May 1948; (5 Iyar 5708) by David Ben-Gurion, the Executive Head of the World Zionist Organization and Chairman of the Jewish Agency for Palestine.
It declared the establishment of a Jewish state in Eretz-Israel, to be known as the State of Israel, which would come into effect on termination of the British Mandate at midnight that day. The event is celebrated annually in Israel with a national holiday Independence Day on 5 Iyar of every year according to the Hebrew calendar”
Also noteworthy, is the Embassy of USA is slated to be moved to Jerusalem and will officially open on May 14, just days after Israel celebrates the 51st anniversary of the Six Day War and the reunification of Israel’s capital.

Seeing Jesus/Yeshua
ALL along
THE WAY... The Emmaus WAY!
On the Hebrew calendar we are in the 50 days between Passover/Pesach and Pentecost/Shavuot. This is the time when the disciples were acutely feeling the loss and had questions and doubts. This is just one of the times that Jesus/Yeshua appeared to the disciples after His resurrection.
At that time, it must have felt to them like that door to life, to any kind of future, had closed forever. All of their hopes and dreams of a Kingdom of God had been drowned in death and terror. Jesus/Yeshua of Nazareth – who brought healing in body, mind and spirit to so many; then inexplicably, He had been crucified and buried.
Simon and Cleopas were facing the emptiness of a world without Jesus/Yeshua and the future they once envisioned had, it seemed, been buried with Him. The same injustice and oppression of the past and present looked as if it was all that the future now held. Anyone daring to say otherwise would most certainly end up like Jesus/Yeshua; betrayed by His fellow countrymen, tortured and then executed by the Romans.
To set a scene: It would have been very late in the afternoon on the first day of the week when Cleopas and his friend left Jerusalem to go home to Emmaus.
They’d heard the morning’s disquieting talk among Jesus’/Yeshua’s disciples: the Master’s body has disappeared from the tomb and it made no sense at all. Did the Romans desecrate the tomb and remove Jesus’/ Yeshua’s body because it was their idea to prevent the tomb from becoming a martyr’s shrine and the body from becoming a religious relic?
Jesus/Yeshua seemed to isolate and focus on those who are in the greatest need and He appeared to them first.
These men were in deep grief and confusion, as was Mary.
Sometimes in life, Jesus’/ Yeshua’s first effort is to help us focus on what His word says, so our faith will be established.
Sometimes He hides Himself while He points us to the Bible and its scriptures, because God’s Word is the only true foundation for faith.
Along the road, an hour or so into their walk, a stranger overtook Cleopas and his companion. Jesus/ Yeshua entered the men’s conversation by asking what they were discussing as they walked along. It was very odd that, coming from Jerusalem, this stranger seemed to know nothing of the bloody end of Jesus/ Yeshua of Nazareth; yet he talked like he’s a disciple of Jesus/Yeshua but they didn’t recall seeing him among Jesus’/ Yeshua’s disciples.
As the three walked toward Emmaus, Luke says, “They stood still, their faces downcast.”
Then Cleopas asked, “Are you only a visitor to Jerusalem and do not know the things that have happened here in these days?” How is it possible you don’t know what has happened?
“What things,” Jesus asked?
“About Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied, “He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people. The chief priests and the rulers handed Him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified Him; but we had hoped that He was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place” (vs. 18-21).
These disciples express the deep longing and belief all Jesus’ disciples’ had cherished, that He was the long looked-for Messiah. But, they said, all their hopes are dashed.
The two go on to report incredulously, that some of the women had described seeing angels and other disciples had seen the empty tomb, but they didn’t know what it all meant.
Here are some of the most powerful words in the New Testament: “He said to them, ‘How foolish you are, and how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Did not the Christ have to suffer these things and then enter His glory?’ And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scripture concerning Himself” (vs. 25-27).
The stranger shares an interpretation of scripture that the two disciples, in their grief, have been unable to understand. Luke doesn’t tell us which scripture passages the stranger refers to, however, it’s not hard to guess which ones they were.
Beginning with the writings of Moses (Genesis through Deuteronomy), and continuing through the writings of the Hebrew prophets, Jesus/Yeshua points out the Scriptures that foretold His ministry, suffering, death, and resurrection.
Maybe He started in Genesis 3, with the messianic interpretation of what God said to the serpent: ‘I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will strike your head, and you will strike his heel.’ (v. 15)
Next the stranger may have turned to the words of Moses in Deuteronomy 18: 17a, 18-19. ‘Then the Lord replied to me…I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their own people; I will put my words in the mouth of the prophet, who shall speak to them everything that I command. Anyone who does not heed the words that the prophet shall speak in my name, I myself will hold accountable.’
Almost certainly the stranger would have quoted from Psalm after Psalm, including Psalm 68 and 22, the opening line of the verse was prophesying that the Messiah would cry out from the cross: “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” After that maybe He opened the treasure trove of prophecies about the Messiah and His suffering, for Cleopas and his companion, especially Isaiah 9:6-9, 53 and 61 and Zechariah 12 and 13?
He told them that, Messiah/Jesus’/Yeshua’s, death and resurrection, had been clearly foretold in the Hebrew Scriptures. He had tried often to explain this to them, but the disciples’ minds were clouded with popular beliefs that contradicted the messianic prophecies; beliefs that turned the Messiah into a powerful earthly ruler, who would conquer kingdoms and lead Israel to national glory.
There must have been a deeper earnestness in Jesus’ voice as He opened the scriptures to them. Quoting Isaiah 53 which not only predicted the manner of Jesus’ death, but clearly described His resurrection too: “After the sufferings of His soul, He will see the light of life and be satisfied” (v. 11). “Though the Lord makes His life a guilt offering, He will see His offspring and prolong His days, and the will of the Lord will prosper in His hand” (v. 10).
Daniel said the Messiah, “the Anointed One,” (v. 26) would be “cut off ” (killed) in the middle of the final week (7 years) of the 70 Week Prophecy, but after His death, He would confirm the covenant with many” (9:27). In other words, He would die, then be resurrected to continue His covenant establishing work with His people.
Cleopas and his friend had been mournfully nursing their dashed hopes, but as this stranger helped them understand that what had just happened, was exactly what God predicted, and planned for since before the foundation of the earth; they begin to feel an amazing hope. By the time the stranger had connected the dots, the two disciples’ hearts were on fire. In (v. 32), the men said, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?” They have a new understanding of what God has done in Jesus/Yeshua of Nazareth.
There is no record of how long He walked and talked with them so we don’t know, but as they neared Emmaus, it was late in the evening, and concerned for their friend’s safety, they urged Him to stay with them for the night. Luke says, “Jesus acted as if He were going farther. However they urged him strongly, ‘Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over. So he went in to stay with them” (vs. 28-29).
They brought out food for dinner, and when Jesus/Yeshua took the bread BLESSED AND BROKE IT with them at dinner in Emmaus,
the two disciples understand not only what the stranger has said, but who the stranger is.
“Their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and He disappeared from their sight” (v. 31).
Imagine their shock and amazement. They have just been walking and talking with the resurrected Messiah! The two men jump up from the table. They can’t contain their excitement and joy, They’re on fire; and in the gathering darkness, they must return to tell the other disciples what has happened and they rush back the seven miles to Jerusalem .
It would have taken them several hours to return the 7 miles –
not a safe and sensible trip to be making in the dark. Nor is their destination a safe and sensible one if you’ve been a follower of Jesus of Nazareth.
But nothing can restrain them any longer.
The transformation of their lives that has occurred this evening is one destined to be replayed in group after group of Jesus’ followers.
When Jesus/Yeshua opens our eyes we SEE clearly for the first time in our lives.
There is an amazing change that comes over Cleopas, his traveling companion, Peter and the other disciples, as they go from fleeing and hiding to boldly proclaiming that the one who was Crucified lives again. It’s not a safe thing to say and it will cost many of them their lives. But they cannot remain silent.
Somehow, Jesus of Nazareth – who is supposed to be dead, now has an existence outside of time and space and it lies beyond scientific observation or human understanding.
Yet it affects thought and action, time and space. A new future, one filled by the risen Messiah, springs out of the ruins of a future, that seemed empty of all life and hope. The future belongs to God and God is there, calling us forward into a new existence.
There are many lessons in this beautiful story for us today.
Luke wrote his gospel, so that we may know the certainty of the things that we have been taught. Luke 1:4
Below the charts indicate, who was there, and how their questions were answered by the certainty of the things they’d been taught.
Jesus/Yeshua cares for all His followers. There are no “insignificant” disciples to Him. We must never feel we are unimportant to God or Heaven Plan. He gives equal care to all His children, and special care to those who are in greatest need.
So Who Was Cleopas??
Not everyone agrees!… so here are some options:
One tradition has it (and it is possible) that Cleopas was the brother of Joseph, husband of Jesus’ mother, Mary.
Another claims Cleopas’ companion on the road to Emmaus in Luke 24:13-35 may have been his own wife? 
Cleopas wife may have been Mary, (John 19:25) ‘the wife of Cleopas who stood at the foot of the cros’.
And she was the same Mary that was the mother of James the Lesser and Jude.
Luke 24:34 identifies Peter as one of the two on the road. Luke 24:34 1611 KJV: Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.
1 Corinthians 15:5. And that he was seen of Cephas — As mentioned Luke 24:34 , who saw him before any of the other apostles. He appeared, indeed, after his resurrection, first of all to Mary Magdalene: and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same.
1 Corinthians 15:5. And that he was seen of Cephas Or Simon Peter; for Cephas was a name given him by Christ, ( John 1:42 ) .
However rabbi Paul states that Yeshua was seen of Cephas before He was seen of all twelve, which agrees with the fact that Luke mentions that it was the “them” that were with the “apostles” (verse 33) that mentioned Simon’s sighting, not the Emmaus “they” of verse 35. (1 Corinthians 15:5). This was not another Cephas, one of the seventy disciples, as Clemens suggests {g}, but the Apostle Peter himself, to whom it is certain the Lord appeared.
Or was Cleopas a woman, the wife of the second person returning to Emmaus? The reference to appearing to Peter in Luke 13:35 was Simon Peter and was he the companion traveller? verse 18 names Cleopas as the other disciple.
While most people assume Cleopas is a man, the Greek spelling has a feminine genitive (possessive) ending so that some scholars speculate that this could have been Peter’s wife on the road to Emmaus with him. It appears that they were going back to where they lived as indicated in the verse ‘The man came in unto their home’.
The Greek spelling of Cleopas Luke 24:19 is Kleopas while the spelling of Clopas in John 19:25 is Klopa. The letter o in klopa is omega, while the letter O in KleOpas is an Omicrom. Both words are in the genitive case with Klopa = masculine and Kleopas = feminine.
Some say “Cleopas” name in high Greek (HaLane`Katara) means: “Glorious Father,” but Cleopas’ name is an abbreviated form of “Cleopatros,” a more common Hellenistic name at the time of Yeshua meaning: “son of a renowned father.”

The fact remains there were 2 travelling back to Emmaus, which is 7 Miles from Jerusalem. Luke 1:26-38; 2Peter 2:4-11
The journey – walking and not recognizing!
Jesus/Yeshua wants to ground our faith in His word, the Scriptures, even more than giving us the emotions of joy, Jesus/Yeshua may reveal Himself to you in seemingly special ways, but never contrary to what His word teaches.
The fact they did not recognize Him may have been due to His new Resurrected body being perfect, not looking anything like He was the last time they saw Him. Or maybe He could adjust His outward appearance, now He was not constrained by space and time and had supernatural qualities?
Lastly, one can wonder what would have happened if the two disciples from Emmaus had not urged Jesus/Yeshua to stay with them.
Would they have missed the opportunity to know it was Messiah who had been talking to them?
Messiah agreed to stay only when they urged Him to do so.
Do we need to urge Jesus/Yeshua to be with us more than we do?
Not because He is unwilling, but because He never forces Himself on anyone?
How many blessings have we missed because we haven’t been more serious about seeking God, or because we haven’t urged Him to stay with us on our Emmaus journey of discovery and relationship?
What blinded them, is the same thing that sometimes blinds us, which is ?? 
The Appearance to the 10 Disciples ‘While they, [Emmaus travelers], were telling these things, He Himself stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace/Shalom be to you.”’

Can people SEE that we have been with Messiah?
Gospel readings have given us accounts of people who looked at Jesus, walked with Jesus, and talked with Jesus but did not recognize Him.
What is it that kept them from recognizing Him? 
What blinded their eyes? What stopped their ears?
Could it be that they, had an idea, of who Jesus/Yeshua was supposed to be. They had formed Him in their minds in their own image and likeness. Yet their image and ours puts limits on the man who is essentially, God.
So, when this man appeared to them in the garden and on the road they did not recognize Him.
He didn’t fit the image they had formed. He far exceeded it and it makes them, in a way, blind and deaf, if only for a time.
In some ways seeing is deceiving.
Matthew 9:27 ‘As Jesus went on from the two blind men followed him calling and saying, take pity on us son of David.’
These two blind men began following Jesus. How could they follow Him if they were blind? 
Blind from birth they no doubt knew their way around the local area and were able to follow along with the crowds. 
And really, why would they follow him? They have not seen any miracles or witnessed any great wonders. Yet in the Scripture above they seem to be the first to recognize that He WAS the son of David, THE Promised long awaited Messiah. They heard what was happening as people were being healed and they surely heard the words that He spoke.
These two blind men following Jesus could not rely on their eyesight for anything yet all their senses testified that they were in the midst of the one they have been waiting for, the great deliverer of Israel.
How often do we ignore what our senses are plainly telling us. 
Sometimes our faith can be so one-dimensional that we are unable to see the truth even when it’s standing right before us.
Seeing as how blind men can follow the Messiah, perhaps we too would do well to occasionally close our eyes.. And see what we can see.
The two disciples don’t recognize Him until the breaking of the bread. Many commentators say that they saw the wounds in His hands at that time and they knew it was the Lord. It may have been the wounds, however it was more likely what He said. 
Perhaps what He said were once again, those life changing, universe shaking words, unparalleled in the history of creation: “This is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”
Whether it was the words of Our Lord, the action of His Breaking Bread or His physical appearance, we do not know for sure. What we do have is a record of the reaction of the two men, “…they rose that same hour and returned to Jerusalem…” The seven mile walk from Jerusalem to Emmaus became a seven mile jog from Emmaus to Jerusalem – on that same day!
The reaction was to run and tell others. Mary ran too, at the Lord’s command, to tell others. Miriam of Magdala, we know her as Mary Magdelene, was by the empty tomb weeping over the death of her teacher/ rabbi. 
As She turned around and saw him standing there she did not realize it was Him and apparently thinking that He was the Gardener she said, tell me where you put Him and I’ll get Him. 
He replied by speaking her name, Miriam. She answered, Rabboni, meaning teacher/rabbi. All she could think about was that her beloved rabbi/ teacher was gone and yet He was standing right there beside her.
In our day to day walk, it is easy for us to get bogged down by problems, or by what we think is missing in our lives, what we don’t have, or what we long for. We can easily end up like Miriam, so filled with sorrow, focusing on what we don’t have in our lives, blind to seeing the treasure that is right in front of us each and every day.
So, do you and I walk around kicking stones like the men/women on the road to Emmaus, or are we like the men/women on the road back to Jerusalem? He has risen indeed!
Let us run to everyone crying out, “I have seen the Lord!”
Each of us at some time in our life will find ourselves on the road to Emmaus. We each have been told fanciful stories of grace and mercy that are often more than we can believe. We have been told of stories of power beyond comprehension.
Many have heard personal witnesses from others who have claimed to have seen the Savior or who have felt the presence of His love and power. The question will be that while we journey upon our own road of mortal life, how will we respond?
Will we believe those who have testified of the Savior and accept his redeeming blood, or will we lack the faith required to believe? 
When the Lord comes to us through the service of others will we invite them in to sup with us and to partake of those things of which we have been blessed?
Though these two disciples at first did not believe, it seems that because they were so willing to serve, that the Lord allowed their eyes to be opened and their hearts to be softened, so that the presence of the Lord would abide with them.
In that moment of faltering faith and fear, that must have filled their hearts that day as they walked to Emmaus; they had not forgotten the words of their Master, to serve others. In their attempt to follow the Lord, He blessed them beyond description.
Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled.
And they realized that they had been with Jesus. — Acts 4:13
The Apostles Peter and John were men who were like Jesus. One day when they went to the temple to pray, they healed a man who had been lame since birth. Then they preached with such boldness that 5,000 people believed that same day (Acts 3–4).
It was unmistakable. Even their enemies could see that Jesus/Yeshua had profoundly impacted these men. Could a statement like that be said of us? 
Could it be said of us, that we have been with Messiah Jesus?
Seeing and being with Jesus/Yeshua on THE WAY.
The greatest blessings we could ever know or have in our life, we already have.
Jesus/Yeshua is the answer, He IS
the way
the truth
and life 
and He’s standing right beside us –
we just have to open the eyes of our hearts, to see the blessings and treasures that already fill the Emmaus WAY of our lives. 
The WAY begins at the Genesis, Chapter 1, verse 1 and continues through to Revelation 22:21; for the WAY, is the whole of scripture and the WAY we should go.
Complete restoration and new direction –
Forward and upward.
It is THE Truth and THE Road that leads to LIFE EVERLASTING PS.139:24.
It’s the Emmaus WAY – His Way of Being, Living and Doing, not ours and
letting Him walk with us when He chooses to come alongside and joins Himself to our journey. Then He opens the scriptures to us and in so doing, He opens the eyes of our understanding. Eph 1:17-19 that we might SEE and KNOW Him.
I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE – THE BREAD THAT CAME DOWN FROM HEAVEN.

The Mystery of
‘In His Deaths’…
and
Resurrection.
Barach means to bless and also means to kneel. Kneeling is an act of submission. We are submitting to the one we are kneeling before. It means to lower ourself, to humble ourself. It’s an act of our free will.
God’s nature is to barach /bless and the greatest blessing He gave, was the blessing of salvation through Messiah Jesus/Yeshua. If to bless is to barach and to barach is to kneel and to kneel is to lower our self;
it follows therefore that for God to give us the blessing of salvation He had to lower Himself.
In order to give us the greatest blessing, it would require the greatest lowering, that of Himself, the greatest descending.
This is why He came down, descended and lowered Himself, humbling Himself in human form. And as to kneel, also means to submit, He did that too. He submitted willingly to the abuse, false accusation, mockery, condemnation and betrayal; further submitting willingly to judgment, crucifixion and to death.
Tasting death so that by choosing to receive His gift, (in Hebrew, Mincha) of salvation we would never have to.
This was in fact Hashem, YHWH, God, kneeling, a cosmic kneeling by the Creator of the Universe, the ultimate lowering/ submission for us.
The miracle is in His kneeling. Here comes the barach/ the blessing. He who kneels is He who blesses, and by His kneeling we are blessed.
So, for there to be a resurrection, there first has to be a death, and as we saw above a willing submission to death.

It’s not a subject that is a first choice at any gathering. It’s something we would rather not talk about. We even try to focus more on the Resurrection part of the Passover story because it’s more palatable.
MiniMannaMoments is dedicated to helping us understand things not usually talked about. Goals are to perceive deeper truths behind hidden meanings in the original texts; and to view the familiar from a heretofore unnoticed point of view. To reveal a perspective that’s maybe overlooked because we think we know the basic story having heard it so often.
The Word of God is like a Jewel, a precious stone cut with multi facets. The same rock but when the Sonlight hits each surface, it reflects a different angle and gives the reader another vantage point, enabling us to see alternative angle and yet another side of the whole.
When light hits a dark area or a place in shadow, we suddenly can see details that were previously obscured from our viewpoint. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light unto my path. As we continue to travel along His Way, the Light of Truth shines, and we see more clearly as Eph 1:18 tells us, the eyes of our understanding being enlightened.

It’s helpful at times to put aside all we think we know and look with fresh eyes at the scriptures. No one understands everything and even what we do cannot be compared with the glory yet to be revealed. Eph 1:17
Death, and the fear of death, holds many all their life in bondage Hebrews 2:15.
“Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, He also Himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; and deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage” Hebrews 2:14 – 15.
Yet the Lord Jesus /Messiah Yeshua, became a man specifically so that He could die, and become the greatest kneeling/baruch of all time; and “that through death He might destroy him that had the power of death” Hebrews 2:14.
Death has been conquered by Jesus Christ/Yeshua HaMashiach.
Death was swallowed up in victory because the grave could not hold the Lord Jesus.
His resurrection is the guarantee of our resurrection.
Someday death will be completely conquered, yet it is the very last enemy on God’s time schedule to be defeated. “The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death” 1 Corinthians 15:26.
However according to the scriptures, as believers, we have done all the dying we will ever have to do, as to be absent (death) from the body, is to be present with the Lord. Death has lost its sting because Yeshua took the keys and…
So with this in mind some fascinating facts are revealed.
Death means “separation” regardless of the type of death involved. Death is never cessation of existence, nor is it cessation of consciousness. James 2:26 says: “the body without the spirit is dead.” Whenever there is a separation of the spirit of a person from their body, at that moment physical death of the body takes place. Just as long as the spirit and soul of a man inhabits the body and is not separated from it, there is life.
Isaiah 53:9 Romans 5:18; 2 Corinthians 5:14, 15
Isaiah prophesies of Jesus the Messiah’s death and His manner of death. It says His death will be linked to wicked men and also to a rich man. He was indeed crucified between two wicked men, criminals, and was buried in the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea.
Isaiah was describing the suffering servant. However there is a mystery hidden in the original Hebrew text where most other translations of Isaiah 53 say ‘in his death’, and the original it says ‘in his deaths’.
Recall the rule; that in the Hebrew language when a word that should be singular is rendered plural. It is often a sign, that the reality behind the word is so unique, so intense, so extreme, so huge, that the word alone cannot contain it.
Messiah’s death was so unique. It was a reality of such an extreme, intense and huge proportions, that the singular word ‘death’ cannot even begin to express the fullness of what it means.
The death of Messiah goes beyond all our abilities to express or understand with our finite thinking.
Here a singular is combined with a plural and here is a mystery revealed.
If it said ‘in His death’, it would make sense as a singular statement, indicating as one death. So also would the statement, ’in their deaths,’ as in multiple, more than one, being a statement in the plural. However it does not say either of these in the original Hebrew. It says ‘in His deaths’. It breaks all rules of language and how we say things. So it appears like someone wrote it incorrectly and maybe why the translators, ‘amended the statement’ so it sounded right.
Here is the revealing prophesied by Isaiah, that Messiah would not die just His death\ one death, but many deaths, more than one. He would not and did not die just for Himself but for all. Each of us and everyone who reads or hears the words. Every death is contained inside the plural. Wow!
Isaiah 53:12 declares: this death in the Hebrew is because He has laid opened His very being to death.
The Death of Death…
This is a Hebrew idiom (idiom is a figure of speech) that makes the statement very emphatic. … The Meaning of Death. … and with the rich in his death [plural, ‘deaths’] Is 53:9
There are three important types of death in the Word of God: spiritual death, physical death and eternal death. Each death is separation and is the result of sin, and all have their remedy in Jesus.
Spiritual death is “separation from God in time.”
God’s work is (Eph 2:6), to undo the work of sin and death, and the remedy for spiritual death is spiritual life. The word “quickened” is an old English word meaning “to make alive.” John 5:24 confirms our everlasting life.
Physical death is the separation of the spirit and/or soul from the body. James 2:26 says, “the body without the spirit is dead.” Whenever the soul leaves the body, physical death ensues.
“Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned” Romans 5:12.
Physical death in the world is the result of the sin of one man, Adam.And here we have to take a moment and go back to the very beginning where it all started, as everything is connected.
This is the reason Jesus had to come to fix the sin problem and why in 1Cor 15:45 He is also called the last Adam. He is the fulfillment of the promise in Genesis to crush the serpents head…
and He is also the English, Beginning and the End, the Hebrew Alef and Tav, the Greek Alpha and Omega of Revelation 22:13

In Genesis 2:17
The Hebrew of . תמות מות . “thou shalt surely die” is “in dying thou shalt die.” It is a Hebrew idiom (idiom is a figure of speech) that makes the statement very emphatic. Adam understood this or else Adam would also have been deceived. Since he was not deceived 1Timothy 2:14 it follows he did understand. However, he may not have fully understood all of the ramifications of his act of disobedience.
Death was something totally foreign to God’s creation.
Until Abel was murdered by Cain, they had not seen or experienced a human death, nor probably that of anything around them.
God is life and He had constructed the world in accordance with His own nature of being. The world that God had made was “very good”—a statement that could not be made when death entered upon the scene. What a change was brought into the world by man ‘eating the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil!’ God has said, “in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” “At the moment in time that you do what I have commanded you not to do, dying you shall die.” Death was the instantaneous result of disobedience.
Adam and Eve began to realize something of the consequences of sin when God made for them coats of skins. In order for this to be done innocent animals, animals that had done nothing wrong, gave their life in order to provide an acceptable covering for the man and the woman.
Adam and Eve saw the first physical death when these innocent animals died to provide for them “coats of skins.”
The consequences of sin coming into the world are not fully understood until one sees the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ as “the lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world.” He died that we might be clothed with His righteousness. 2 Corinthians 5:21
Here is the sacrifice of the innocent One who knew no sin, did no sin, in Him was no sin, for us who are sinful. He died as our substitute, in order to provide an acceptable blood covering for us before God. The full consequence of sin entering into the world is understood only in the light of Calvary.
It is the central theme in all who spoke prophecy throughout scripture.

As in Adam all die; in Messiah Jesus, all shall be made alive.
Part of the redemption work was prophesied in Genesis 3:15
Paul wrote: “For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ” Romans 5:17.
Because Jesus Christ lives, we shall live also John 14:19.
Even though we may die, we await that future day of our resurrection or the complete redemption of our body. Romans 8:23.
God’s remedy for physical death is resurrection.
Thirdly The Eternal or Second Death:
This death is spoken of in Revelation 20:12 –15, and it refers to “eternal separation from God.”
The scripture tell us Eternal death is the result of rejecting the Lord Jesus Christ, and failing to believe that He is the Savior of the world.
This state is spoken of as that of perishing.
14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; 15 that whoever believes may in Him have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life John 3:14 – 16
In each of the cases through scripture where people were raised from the dead, (here in this example Lazarus,) the person was restored back to life again, only to die at some other later time.
Their restoration was to physical life.
Not one of these had gone through death into life so that they could not die again.
But Messiah Jesus/Yeshua did.
He was not restored to life.
He was resurrected to life.
The life He enjoyed as a resurrected being was not a life subject to death. He came out of death into life. Death had no more power over Him.
Thus we read in Romans 6:9, “Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.”
And in 2Timothy 1:10, “Our Savior Jesus Christ … hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.”
How did Messiah Jesus/Yeshua abolish death?
He did so by going ‘through death.’
The only One who ever passed “through death” into eternal life is Jesus the Messiah. In doing so He conquered death. He has the keys of death.
It is for this reason that the Lord Jesus is called “the firstborn from the dead.” Col 1:15,18; Rev 1:5
In His Deaths
The Deaths He Died
Scripture speaks of three kinds of death: spiritual, physical and eternal. When Messiah died, He took care of the problem of death. He dealt with spiritual, physical and eternal death. In order to do so, He died twice; or He experienced two separate and distinct deaths.
He experienced physical death, but He also experienced spiritual death. (Remember spiritual death is the reality of experiencing separation from His Father when He cried ‘Why have you forsaken Me’.) He did this so we would never have to. It was a complete and perfect work.
Thank God for the deaths Messiah Jesus/Yeshua died. He tasted death for every person. He through death has conquered death, and stands the Victor over death.
He is the One who could say:
“I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die” John 11:25 – 26. He said: “Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my sayings, he shall never see death” John 8:51.
Messiah Yeshua has changed death for every believer.
Because He was an Infinite Being, He went through physical death, and today there is a man with a glorified resurrected body in eternity. Physical death is conquered. There is a man in glory who is the guarantee that all believers will also be there someday in the presence of the Father.
Salvation is available for man; it is not available for the devil or his angels.
It is available because of the deaths Messiah Jesus died.
It is striking that in the Hebrew of Isaiah 53:8 and 9 two plurals are used. It says: “He was cut off out of the land of the living [plural]: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death [plural, ‘deaths’].”
It is often true that the Hebrew uses abstract qualities in the plural, but it is also true that the Lord Jesus Christ was cut off from the land of the living both Godward and then manward.
The living God was separated from the Son in the darkness of the cross; He was cut off for the first and only time in all eternity from the living God. Then He was cut off from those living on earth. 
This would signify He died twice and that is exactly what the next phrase says.
In the first death he made His grave with the wicked for He hung between two thieves. His second grave, (that which was physical) was with the rich. He was buried in a rich man’s tomb. Thus the prophet prophetically sees both His grave with the wicked and His grave with the rich in the deaths He died. Only God could write it so exactly.
During the period of darkness, we see God’s night when His wrath was poured out on His own Son and which was the only time in eternity in which there was separation between the Father and the Son
Remember that it is the death Messiah Jesus/Yeshua experienced on the cross of spiritual separation from the Father which provides eternal salvation for us. It is not just the physical death of Jesus that saves anyone, but His spiritual death.
Our message is about a cross, this is what we are to preach, not a tomb.
The physical death is not the most important death. Messiah Jesus/Yeshua had to go through physical death even as He went through the incarnation and birth.
Yet He came out of death being raised from the death. Nevertheless the death He endured and tasted that is significant to our salvation is His spiritual death with the Father and the Holy Spirit.
The only way that God the Son could die would be to assume the nature of man. God cannot die, but someone who is both God and man could die. But being both God and man, the Lord Jesus Christ could not only die, He could conquer death and so become its new master. 
He conquered death so that death was subject to Him and not He to it. Death is now the Messiah Jesus’s servant, and He is its Master and Lord.
Thus we read in Romans 6:9, “Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.”
And in
2 Timothy 1:10, “Our Savior Jesus Christ … hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.”
The children of Israel were told to celebrate Passover every year so that they would remember and never forget how the Lord save them out of Egypt. Exodus 21
At the end of his life, Paul called himself the biggest sinner, once that was true he had opposed the gospel vehemently, that his life as an enemy of God was long over and even long forgotten. He had been in the Lord for decades and was known throughout the world as a saint.
However at the end of his life he tells the story of getting saved as if it were yesterday.
This principle is as old as Passover.
If we want to get to the promised land, we must never stop thanking God for taking us out of Egypt.
Never forget how He saved us.
Peter wrote that those who lack godly qualities are those who have forgotten their salvation. Let’s give thanks to the Lord for saving us out of Egypt as if it just happened, and one day we’ll give thanks to the Lord for bringing us into the promised land.
Practice the principle of Passover by giving thanks; for how God saved us and delivered us from bondage and live as if you just got saved to day. 2 Peter 1:9
This is such an important meaning of Passover …
and of this part of His journey from the cross to the throne.

More Than One Palm
As this is
which of course it is referring to the day also called 
into Jerusalem and the branches of the palm trees. This is the day that palm fronds were waved by the crowds and together with Tallits, (prayer shawls/garments), were laid along the road for Messiah Jesus/Yeshua to ride over.
What do Palm branches remind us of …? A tropical beach, southern climates, an oasis in the burning desert, children part of a procession dancing and singing Hosanna to the Son of David?
12 The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. 13 So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!”
14 And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written, 15 “Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey’s colt!” (John 12:12-15 ESV)
The custom of palms traditionally at the end of ‘Lent’ in the Christian Church Calendar, can serve to remind us of a certain day in the month of Nisan, over 2000 years ago; 
because it has its roots in the Judeo/Christian and Hebrew Appointed Times/ Feasts of the children of Israel.
In Jewish culture, palms were used for such an event because they are symbols of victory. As Jesus rides into Jerusalem amid shouts of praise and symbols of victory we clearly see the connection.
In the reference to the branch in Isaiah 11:1
Messiah Jesus IS the branch from the stem of Jesse growing out of his roots/stump.
Little did the people know that the victory Jesus would win was neither political nor military in nature but salvation victory.
On His way to the cross,
Jesus is riding into Jerusalem amid the shouts and palm branches where He won the victory for us over sin, death, and the power of the devil at the cross. The palms also representing the victory that Messiah Jesus/Yeshua won over our sinful, corrupt nature.

However as our English language often has the same word for two different meanings there is another connection here. Palm doesn’t just mean a certain type of tree, or the branch of that tree; It also refers to the part of our hands from the wrist to the base of the fingers.
Our English word palm came from the Latin word for the tree or branch. One source says the word travelled to Northern Europe (where the English language developed) via the Christians bringing the word for the tree they used on Palm Sunday in celebration of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem.
The English word palm, meaning the part of the hand, is used in an Old Testament Bible passage.
Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands.
Isaiah 49:16
In Isaiah 49:16 this is a reference declaring that we are written, inscribed, or engraved in the palms of His hands. God says this to us to remind us that He has not – and never will – forget us. Sometimes in stressful situations, it may ‘feel’ that He has; but God says this to us to remind us that He has not – and never will – forget us.
And in Ps 31:15
Our times are in His Hands
WE are in HIS HAND –
Written on His hand.
Isaiah 49:16.
See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me.
The word “engraved”, it is an eternal reminder, not just written, but ENGRAVED.
Behold I have graven
I have inscribed chaqaq חַקֹּתִ֑יךְ
(khaw-kak’) chak·ko·tich; to cut in, inscribe, decree; to hack, i.e. engrave (Judges 5:14, to be a scribe simply); by implication, to enact (laws being cut in stone or metal tablets in primitive times) or (gen.) prescribe.
Hebrew word for engrave is haqaq, meaning to mark out, inscribe, portrayed.
Portrayed means a representation of something, or in other words a picture, a picture of us engraved on the hands of the LORD. We look at our hands multiple times a day. When we worship Him they are open before Him, usually with our palms facing upwards in an attitude of openness and humility; giving of our love and gratefulness and also a readiness to receive. 
Our names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. Is it possible that our names are written in His Book of Life not with ink, but with the Holy and Precious Blood of Messiah Jesus/Yeshua?
Is it possible that on that day of Triumphal entry, He knew the deeper significance of the word PALM? 
His Blood was shed on the cross when He died for our sins. Are our names written with the Blood of Jesus that flowed when nails where driven through the palms of His hands – thus marking Him for eternity??
As scripture tells us, Jesus is ever interceding for us before the throne of God.. maybe with His hands open in prayer, pointing to them and saying, 
‘Look at this one engraved on My palm, look at this picture of them portrayed on my palms. I love them, and I am praying to you Father for them, keep them safe for they are in covenant with Us.’
For example a wedding ring on someone’s finger whenever they glance down at it, it is a constant reminder that they are married to someone, they will always think of the one they are married to when they see their wedding ring. However, it is only a temporary token, but to have someone engraved on the palm of the Lord’s hands it is eternal.

The hollow hand or palm, so of the paw of an animal, of the sole, and even of the bowl of a dish or sling, the handle of a bolt, the leaves of a palm-tree); figuratively, power.
kap·pa·yim hollow or flat of the hand, palm, sole (of the foot), a pan from kaphaph Kaf כַּ, meaning Palm, Open hand cover, Allow.
Your walls are ever before me.Isaiah 49:16
Behold, I have graven (8804) thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me. [of My hands]; Your walls חֹומֹתַ֥יִךְ

In the time in which this was written, walls were used as writing tablets to record the chronological detail of someone’s life, and to display a person’s life achievements, identifying who they were and what they did, including if they had a family, or what kind of possessions they owned.
This amazing verse highlights how interested the LORD is in every detail of our lives. Not only are we engraved upon the palms of His hands, but our lives, ‘the wall of our life’ is before Him.
Nothing is hidden from the Lord, yet he still loves us with an everlasting love.
By engraving our names on the palms of His hands He reveals the depths of His love towards us. We need to better understand the meaning of that word ‘engrave’, Its like tatooing. You cannot take it out. Once it is engraved, it is the part of the skin..There is no way to separate both. So our lives with all its boundaries are constantly viewed by God; and because of this promise, we are to have childlike faith and be anxious for nothing.
Everything we lack, everything we are, our limitations, our expectations, our hopes and dreams, our brokenness…everything is like an open book before Him. He knows what we are going through, He knows our limits too.
The LORD will never let go of us.
Why He has engraved us on His palms?…it’s because He wants to see us everyday, every moment of our lives…because each one of us is precious in His sight. Imagine, the creator of this world, has us on His palms. What else do we need in life? This is to remind us that there is a greater love than all the other relationships that we have on this earth. It is the love of Jesus. 
He is the only one who chose to die for us. He shed his blood for us.
He suffered the shame and pain to make us His own and we are engraved on His palms. Nobody else or any kind of situation can remove us from there unless we choose to leave, we are constantly in His presence.
He loves us and is constantly praying for us and thinking of us. Listen to tender words of love from Psalm 139:17 (NIV), ‘How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!’
This Passover season and as we celebrate Palm Sunday remember you were in His thoughts as He prepared to go to the cross. 
We were and are Engraved in the palms of His hands, the same hands that were pierced through for our sorrows.
There is another fascinating connection to God, Palms and Israel….

The most amazing thing is that the area around Jerusalem, Israel as seen from above, resembles a hand. (Almost like a glove or mitten.)

Is the Name of God Hidden on The Mountains of Israel?

shows some Hebrew letters formed from the shadow of mountains on top of Israel.

Significance has been applied to the fact that there are three valleys that comprise the city of Jerusalem’s geography. This also has a connection to palm/hand.
The Valley of Ben Hinnom, Tyropoeon Valley, and Kidron Valley, and that these valleys converge to also form the shape of the letter shin, the Temple in Jerusalem located approx. where the dagesh, the horizontal line is.
This is seen as a fulfillment of passages such as Deuteronomy 16:2 that instructs the Israelites to celebrate the Pasach at ‘the place the LORD will choose as a dwelling for his Name’. (NIV).
The first letter of ‘Shaddai’ in Hebrew is the letter shin (pronounced ‘sheen’). 
It is the 21 st letter of the Alef Bet (alphabet). See earlier posts for more.
The pictograph behind it is fire and teeth.
The word shin is spelled, shin-nun, (S N) from
the Hebrew word for tooth is, shen and has the exact same spelling. Deut 9:3
It is very significant and because of its importance to Shaddai one of the Names of God, a kohen (priest) 
forms the letter Shin with his hands as he recites the Priestly Blessing.
Shaddai, meaning ‘the keeper of the doors of Israel’ and is also inscribed on the mezuzot placed on all the doorways of Jewish homes.
The letter Shin is often inscribed on the case containing a mezuzah, a scroll of parchment with Biblical text written on it. 
The text contained in the mezuzah is the Shema prayer, which calls the Israelites to love their God with all their heart, soul and strength. The mezuzah is situated upon all the door frames in a home or establishment. Sometimes the whole word Shaddai will be written.
is said over the people, found in Numbers 6:24-26.
It is fairly well-known. However, lesser known, is the deeper meaning found
in the pictorial language of the ancient Hebrew.
It is not necessary for salvation to know and to search for the deeper meaning
but when we dig a little deeper, we are able to see additional beautiful pieces of the picture our Heavenly Father has been wanting us all to understand that we have all missed out on for so many generations.

the Shin ” ש ” (index/middle/ring),
the Vav ” ו ” (baby)
and the Ayin ” ע ” (palm to wrist).
In Hebrew: Yeshua ישוע (Jesus) אֲדֹנָי .
So everytime we look at our hands during the day remember God specifically tells us that He will not forget us. In fact, He says He cannot forget us because every time He looks at His hands, He remembers us. 
He has engraved us on the palms of His hands as a reminder of us, as a reminder to us of how much He loves us, as a reminder of what He did because He loves us; and amazingly His Name is recorded on ours! Right palm out and centered over head is our affirmation of Yeshua/Jesus Name.
Particularly this coming week, as it is the week leading up to Passover… let’s remember what He did for us recalling His Palms of promise.
Of all weeks in the year this is a perfect time to share the gospel message and make certain your family and friends are saved.
