What Exactly Did Sarai Hear?

This week is a postscript to

‘Are we listening’

and how we hear the voice – kol/qol  קול .

We learned that Yarah can mean

both physical seeing and spiritual seeing.  

Many times what we read in scripture is telling us of both types of seeing, and both types of hearing.

So with this in mind,

what exactly did Sarai hear?

Let the reader decide.

In Genesis 18:10

we read about Abram and Sarai

and the visit of the 3 ‘men’.

When sitting, about mid-day, in the grove of Mamre, in front of his tent, Abram אַבְרָם looked up and unexpectedly saw three men standing at some distance from him (עליו above him, looking down upon him as he sat), viz., Jehovah (Genesis 18:13) and two angels (Genesis 19:1); all three in human form.

Perceiving at once that one of them was the Lord (אדני, i.e., God), he prostrated himself reverentially before them, and entreated them not to pass him by, but to suffer him to entertain them as his guests:

“Let a little water be fetched, and wash your feet, and recline yourselves (השּׁען( sevle to recline, leaning upon the arm) under the tree.”

Comfort your hearts:” literally: “strengthen the heart,“

i.e., refresh yourselves by eating and drinking.

(Judges 19:5; 1 Kings 21:7).

For therefore (sc., to give me an opportunity to entertain you hospitably) have ye come over to your servant:”

כּן על כּי does not stand for כּי כּן על (Ges. thes. p. 682),

but means “because for this purpose” (vid., Ewald, 353).

During the meal, at which Abraham stood, and waited upon them as the host, they asked for Sarai, for whom the visit was chiefly intended.

On being told that she was in the tent, where she could hear all that passed under the tree in front of the tent.  The one whom Abram addressed as Adonai (my Lord), and who is called Jehovah in Genesis 18:13, said,

“I will return to thee (חיּה כּעת) at this time, when it lives again”

(חיּה, reviviscens, without the article, Gesinius. 111, 2b), i.e.,

at this time next year; “and, behold, Sarai, thy wife, will (then) have a son.”

Sarai heard this at the door of the tent; “and it was behind Him” (Jehovah), so that she could not be seen by Him as she stood at the door. But as the fulfillment of this promise seemed impossible to her, on account of Abraham’s extreme age, and the fact that her own womb had lost the ability of conception; she laughed within herself, thinking that she was not observed. But in order that she might know that the promise was made by the omniscient and omnipotent Heavenly Father, He reproved her for laughing, saying;

“Is anything too wonderful (i.e., impossible) for Jehovah? at the time appointed I will return unto thee,”

 and when her natural understanding led her to deny it, He convicted her of her heart attitude.

Abraham had also laughed at this promise, but he was not reprimanded..

Genesis 17:17

Why?

His laughing was the joy-filled outburst of astonishment and wonder; on the contrary Sarai’s was the result of doubt and unbelief, which had to be exposed by reproof, and, as the result showed, it really was by the fact that she conceived and gave birth to a son, one whom she could only have conceived in faith. Hebrews 11:11.

As the angel was speaking of the son that Sarai was to have she had positioned herself at the tent door to hear the conversation.

Aramaic Bible in Plain English

Literal Standard Version
and He says, “Returning I return to you, about the time of life, and behold, to Sarah your wife a son.” And Sarah is listening at the opening of the tent, which is behind him;

Amplified Bible
He said, “I will surely return to you at this time next year; and behold, Sarah your wife will have a son.” And Sarah was listening at the tent door, which was behind him.

King James Bible
And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him.

Both Abram and Sarai’s names were changed:

In verse 10: According to the time of life.

In Hebrew it reads: according to the living time.

It is clear from Genesis 18:14, and 2Kings 4:16-17, that these words mean some fixed period of time, but the exact rendering has differences of opinions among scholars.

When the season revives means: next spring, is entirely separate from Middle East thinking, and one rendering of it: at the living time is a poetic but meaningless one.

I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life. 

Literally, at the time reviving; i.e. when the year shall have been renewed, in the next year, or rather spring (vide Ewald, ‘Hebrews Synt.,’ § 337; Rosenmüller, Drusius, Keil, Kalisch, Lange, Ainsworth, ‘Speaker’s Commentary’); although other interpretations of the phrase have been suggested, as, e.g., “according to the time of that which is born,” i.e. at the end of nine months (Willet, Calvin, Bush, Murphy). 

The more correct rendering is probably a year hence, as when the year is over it dies, and a new year lives in its place. Hebrraic/Jewish tradition is strongly in favor of this view, translating it as: according to this time next year, and interestingly adding that the season was the Passover/Peasch. The only other possible rendering is in course of time.

Which was behind him.

The LXX. has a preferable reading,

and she was behind it.

What is the LXX?

The Septuagint (pronounced sep-TOO-uh-jint) is a Greek translation of the Jewish/Hebrew Scriptures/Old Testament. It was completed sometime between 300 to 200 BC. With the rise of Alexander the Great (336 to 323 B.C.), the Greek language became the common language. Hebrew fell out of use among the Jews, so to read the scriptures in a relevant language, Ptolemy II Philadelphus, the son of Alexander the Great’s Macedonian-Greek general Ptolemy I Soter, commissioned the translation of the Hebrew scriptures into Greek. Seventy scholars (Some sources say 72) undertook this feat, which resulted in the Septuagint translation. The word Septuagint is abbreviated and known as the LXX, which is the Roman numeral for 70. The Septuagint (LXX) was the version of the Bible used by the authors of the New Testament. Therefore, the authors sometimes quote the Septuagint rather than the Masoretic (Hebrew) text.

The door, in the physical natural realm, was an opening made by looping back the curtain, which would effectually conceal Sarai.

Verse 10. – And HE said 

(the Principal Guest, as above, Who, by the very nature and terms of His announcement, identifies Himself with God/Jehoveh. If it were not Jehoveh/YHVH, and all the 3 were His angels, they would have told Abram not to bow in worship to them.) 

And, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. i.e. at the time specified. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him. 

In the tent door which was behind him, 

i.e. at the back of the One that spoke with him;

this is added here to show that He knew her laughter and inner attitude of unbelief and denial,

not by the sight of His eyes, but

by His all-seeing knowledge!

and Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him; or, “and it was behind him”; that is,

the tent door was at the back of the person speaking;

Sarai, hearing her name mentioned, got to the tent door to listen to what else might be said; and the place where she was, was behind the speaker, who stood between her and Abram, with whom he was conversing; Abram was before Him, and Sarai behind Him, so that He could not see her when she laughed, and yet He knew she did.

In one Hebrew/Jewish commentary,

in the original text there is no preposition,

IN, written before the words

the tent door

So the translation would read:

Sarai HEARD the opening of the tent,

or

Heard the tent open

In Hebrew:sham’ah patach ha’ahal

Spelled with the letters:

Shin mem ayin taw pei taw cheth hei aleph hei lamed

And Sarai heard it (in) the tent door which was behind him.

The Hebrew for tent is AHAL

a word that means: dwelling place

and isn’t the normal word used for dwelling place.

It’s spelled aleph hei lamed; and used to indicate that this is:

a special dwelling place where one may receive special revelation from Adonai.

The Hebrew scholars suggest that:

what Sarai heard was not the opening of the tent flap,

but that she heard the shekinah,

the Glory of the presence of Adonai,

the opening of the divine realm of the spirit;

or we might say

heard The Fathers voice- kol/qol speaking.

However it suggests something further, like that of

an opening into heaven – a door – a portal.

This is not a new or strange concept, as we are familiar with the events at Yeshua/Jesus’ immersion. Here both He and John saw the heavens open and heard the voice of the Father; as they saw His shekinah descend upon Messiah bodily, like or, as a dove gently settling /landing. Those with spiritual ears to hear heard the voice/kol. Yet some said it thundered when the Fathers voice was heard. This was a very special moment when Father, Son and their Spirit of Holiness were present all at the same time; the Transfiguration of Messiah on the Mount was another.

In Mark 1:10 He saw heaven torn open:

The word translated here as torn open from the Greek verb: schizo; is a dramatic word that appears only in Mark’s account, hinting at the beginning B’resheet – Genesis– when the heavens and the earth were created from nothing by the Word of God; where again Father, Son and Spirit of Holiness were recorded as being together.

Likewise, the image of Holy Spirit descending and a Voice speaking from heaven suggests the creation account.

Another occasion which we are familiar with is Acts 2:2 .

There came a sound from heaven…

The text translated literally from the Greek reads as: suddenly there came a sound from heaven as being borne along by a violent wind.

The word SOUND in Greek is echos.

Another easily recognizable word from our own language! It basically means: a sound or noise, possibly a roaring noise like the wind blowing violently, howling as in a very severe storm..

In Aramaic the word that is used here for

SOUND is QALA which means a VOICE.

Giving or creating a picture or image of:

the heavens opening and a voice coming out through this opening like a doorway or portal, a connecting point between realms.

There are multiple examples throughout the Bible of spiritual eyes and ears being opened so that the invisible becomes visible. This is the faith we are to have, that even when we don’t see it we are to believe and know it is still there.Our reminder is in Hebrews 11:1; Faith is the substance of things hoped for…. Recall Elisha and the chariots in 2kings 6:17.

For שָׂרָי Saray Sarai, it was a message she found hard to accept even though she had walked with YHVH/God for 90 years, seen many miracles and known His presence.

It is said that a Divine Cloud “was attached” to the tent of Sarai and maybe this was the moment it came and remained?

In Exodus 33:7 we read of the Glory cloud at the entrance to Moses tent:

7 Now Moses used to take a tent and pitch it outside the camp some distance away, calling it the “tent of meeting.” Anyone inquiring of the Lord would go to the tent of meeting outside the camp. 8 And whenever Moses went out to the tent, all the people rose and stood at the entrances to their tents, watching Moses until he entered the tent. 9 As Moses went into the tent, the pillar of cloud would come down and stay at the entrance, while the Lord spoke with Moses.

In Luke 1 there is another example of what seems impossible in human terms: Zacharias a man who faithfully served Adonai, he and his wife had prayed for a child for years. Then Gabriel appeared to him while he was alone in the temple. Zacharias was afraid and didn’t believe the message that their prayers were to be answered and was struck dumb for his unbelief. It seemed impossible for both Sarai and Zacharias when they were told something was about to happen, even though it was a long awaited desire that was to be fulfilled; it was one that for them that seemed impossible..

Why?

because they were focused on this natural realm with natural understanding of what they could physically see. They did not allow their minds to go beyond this natural earthly realm/ dimension, so it seemed impossible to them.

For with God nothing is impossible.

Genesis 18:14.

Jesus/Yeshua said it in Matthew 19:26

And looking upon them Jesus said to them, With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.

With God nothing is impossible and this is where that well known quote comes from. They both could only have shown, or have revealed to them, what was reflected in their own minds. We ourselves are often a barrier to things our Heavenly Father’s Spirit is trying to reveal to us, and unless we allow our minds to move beyond this physical world/realm; we cannot be shown the true wonders that He can perform and neither can He reveal to us the greater works that we are to do! John 14:12. Those that He plans to accomplish in and through us. We must begin to believe our Heavenly Father for what to us seems to be the impossible in the natural. Begin to believe for the supernatural, the impossible, because we serve the supernatural God of gods Lord of lords and King of kings. We limit Him by our mindset, our thinking and our view of what we see as reality.

This is why we like Paul, Ephesians 1:8, must request that the eyes of our understanding be enlightened, opened to see….. and as Messiah challenges us to have our ears opened to hear what the spirit is saying to the churches/ecclesia.. Revelation 2:29.

We must position ourselves like Sarai, to see and hear heaven opened to us.

Ephesians 4:1. This means we must walk in a manner worthy of the calling, of being the vessel that is infilled with His Shekinah Glory…

Would the Spirit of Holiness settle gently on us today?

Have we prepared a home worthy for Him to dwell in?

If Sarai did

Yarah,

hear a heavenly portal open, and if she saw into the realm of the spirit and experienced the Shekinah Glory… maybe she did perceive that with Jehoveh/YHVH/God

nothing is impossible!

Our faith, trust and belief in the impossible becoming reality, needs to develop, increase and mature; because the days that lie ahead are going to test the very foundation of all that we say we believe! We MUST be firmly rooted and grounded in His Word and in our unshakeable relationship with our Heavenly Father, Messiah and their Spirit of Holiness.

Phil.3:10, Know Him and the power of His resurrection as our truth, as our personal reality. 

We MUST be certain that nothing, absolutely nothing will cause us to waver or stumble; whatever we hear or see in this natural realm.

40 Days Later He Left

We looked at the

number 40

in a previous post and that it has a meaning of:

revealing and testing.

At this point in the calendar, we are just a little over

40 days

since Passover/Pesach.

Luke 24:50 51 tells us

50 When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. 51 While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven.

Jesus/Yeshua appeared to them on many occasions in

different forms following His resurrection;

Revealing His Deity to them and

testing their faith in Who He was.

After these 40 days He ascended.

13 Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles[a]from Jerusalem. 14 They were talking with each other about everything that had happened.15 As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; 16 but they were kept from recognizing him.

Luke 24:13-16

After that, He appeared in a different form to two of them as they were walking along the way to the country. Mark 16:12 Amp.

After the Transfiguration happened to Yeshua/Jesus, we have no personal life experiences that are equal or similar to the events that Messiah went through from that time forward.

For 30 years He had appeared to be a normal man but He was living a perfect life as a Torah observant Hebrew/Jew/Israelite. The record of His life as written in the four Gospels by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John describes only approximately the last three years of His public ministry apart from His conception, birth, notable events in His early years to age 12.

Luke 2:40 And the Child grew and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him.

We must remember all we read in these 4 accounts, did not occur in just a  single 12 month period. Going forward from the time of His transfiguration everything is unfamiliar to us from what we already know of HIs life and ministry.

His transfiguration on the mountain was a marker in time.

Matt. 17:2 Mark 9:2

1Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; 2and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light.  3And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. 4Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, [a]let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

5While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!”  6And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were greatly afraid.  7But Jesus came and touched them and said, “Arise, and do not be afraid.”  8When they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.

9Now as they came down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, “Tell the vision to no one until the Son of Man is risen from the dead.” Matt 17

Moses and Elijah were seen with Him and the glory He had laid aside was upon Him brighter than Moses whose face had shone with the Shekinah glory centuries before on another mountain.

and it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses’ hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses knew not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him. Ex 34:29-35

The Voice of the Father spoke again

at the transfiguration

Matt 17:5 While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!”  6And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were greatly afraid. 

just as He had done at Messiahs immersion;

when His Spirit of Holiness was imparted.

Luke 3:21/22

When all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also was baptized; and while He prayed, the heaven was opened. And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.”

Moses and Elijah strengthened and encouraged Him prior to His fulfilling all He had come to do according to the Fathers will.

Matt.17:3

And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Jesus.

He was to set His face toward Jerusalem, Gethsemane, the beating and the cross; the cruel stake of crucifixion, physical death, followed by the resurrection… and we have no experience of such an ordeal.

His execution stake/ tree/ cross is the dalet /door by which every person can enter into the life/chaim of God.

John 10:9

By His resurrection He has the right to give eternal life to anyone

By His ascension Messiah entered heaven/shamayim keeping that dalet/ door open for humanity, for whosoever will. Mark 8:34; Matt. 16:25; Matt. 20:27.

The Transfiguration was completed on the

mount of the Ascension

Luke 24:50-53
And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.

If Messiah had gone directly to heaven from the Mount of Transfiguration, He would have gone alone. He would have been nothing more to us than an unusual historical figure, but He turned His back on the glory once again and came down from the mountain to identify Himself with fallen humanity and become the sin bearer of the world.

Yeshua HaMashiach/Jesus Christ, God’s One and Only Son, laid aside His majesty to serve humanity. His death on the cross is the ultimate expression of servant leadership, when He obediently fulfilled the will of God.

Amplified Bible  Phil.2:6-8
Who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but emptied Himself [without renouncing or diminishing His deity, but only temporarily giving up the outward expression of divine equality and His rightful dignity] by assuming the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men [He became completely human but was without sin, being fully God and fully man]. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross.…

His ascension from the Mount of Olives was the complete fulfillment of the Transfiguration.

Messiah returned to His original glory but not simply as the Son of God. He returned to His Father as the Son of Man as well.

John 17:5 Amplified Bible
Now, Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory and majesty that I had with You before the world existed.

 

Now there is freedom of access for anyone, straight to the very throne of God because of the ascension of the Son of Man.

 

Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16.

We can come boldly because Messiah’s Blood satisfied the fullness of the Fathers covenant as payment for sin. As the Son of Man, Jesus/Yeshua deliberately limited His omnipotence, omnipresence and omniscience. But now and forevermore they are His in absolute full power and authority. As the Son of Man, Jesus/Yeshua now has all the power at the throne of the Father. From His ascension forward He became and is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Many will not understand the value of that until they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.

Mark 13:26; Matt. 16:28. assuredly, I say to you, there are some standing here who shall not

taste death

till they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.

Many people fear and seek to avoid death at any cost, yet when we give our lives for the sake of Messiah Jesus, we see it as a sacrifice. This is because we don’t understand the value of death. Death is the doorway to something so much better and far, far greater.

He understood this…

For the joy set before him he endured the cross … fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith … at the right hand of the throne of God. Heb. 12:2.

In the verse above about tasting death…how do we explain what something tastes like to someone who has never tried or eaten it? For example to describe the taste of a pineapple or a jalapeno pepper is almost impossible, a person would actually have to taste it themselves.

He tasted death for all of us so we don’t have to.

But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while [by taking on the limitations of humanity], crowned with glory and honor because of His suffering of death, so that by the grace of God [extended to sinners] He might experience death for [the sins of] everyone.

Hebrews 2:9. But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone.

There’s no way for us to see the value of death until we actually pass through the death of this physical body into the realm/world beyond time, leaving behind this natural one and see the Son of Man coming in His Kingdom. His Kingdom which is not of this world/realm.

John 18:36. Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here.”

Only then will we have a full understanding and we will no doubt wonder why we feared death at all.

In Matthew 16:28

shall not TASTE death

until they see the son of man coming in his glory.

The word taste in Hebrew/Aramaic is taim – טָעִים

טָעַם  verb taste, perceive –

pronounced: taw-am’ 

The first century understanding of this word was that it was used: to express the VALUE of what is eaten

and also

perception as the ability to distinguish between thoughts.

Strong’s Definitions. ta`am, taw-am’; a primitive root; to taste; figuratively, to perceive:

Ps.34:8 taste and see that the Lord is good.

Here in this Psalm the word for taste is taamu

also meaning:

to taste, to perceive

encouraging us to:

put the matter to the test of experience ( 1 Peter 2:3).

There is no other way of really knowing how good our Heavenly Father is.

He gives us a little taste here and now, of what lies ahead, what is to come for those who will take up their cross daily and follow Him for the joy that is also, set before us.

The revealing of the 40 days came by way of Messiah who was recorded as appearing 12 times to His disciples in His resurrected body.  John 21:14; Mark 16:14; 1Cor 15:7.

It came also by way of the testing of their faith in that, Who He was revealed in all His Glory. A risen, resurrected savior, their Messiah, Lord and King.

In scripture, specifically the Ten Commandments/sayings, there is very clear instruction that no Hebrew/Israelite or child of God is to worship and bow down to any idol, person or thing, other than our Heavenly Father.

Luke 24:52 And they worshiped Him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, Acts 1:9;

Matt. 28:9 and as they went to tell His disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, “Rejoice!” So they came and held Him by the feet and worshiped Him.

And some of them were unsure because of this commandment  and so they hesitated..

Matt 28:17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.

And Emmaus Luke 24:52
And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:

So when the disciples knelt down and said what they did, it was a very serious decision and confession as they were declaring that they believed He was none other than YHVH /Yaweh/ God Almighty. This is a point to remember when thinking of Jewish people who do not accept Jesus/Yeshua as Messiah; they see Christianity and Christians as bowing down and worshipping Jesus as equal to worshipping a forbidden idol putting Him before God and therefore violating the first of the commandments.

Only when the Father opens their eyes, as He did for Saul/Paul, will they see Him whom they pierced. John 19:37

One day our ascension will occur and only the Father knows when that day will be.

Ps 139:16 Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; And in Your book were all written. The days that were appointed for me, When as yet there was not one of them [even taking shape].

Meanwhile we are to work out our salvation soberly and faithfully, looking unto Jesus/Yeshua, the author and finisher of our faith and paying close attention to how we walk for the days are evil. Eph. 5:15 16.

Therefore see that you walk carefully [living life with honor, purpose, and courage; shunning those who tolerate and enable evil], not as the unwise, but as wise [sensible, intelligent, discerning people],

making the very most of your time [on earth, recognizing and taking advantage of each opportunity and using it with wisdom and diligence], because the days are [filled with] evil.

Violence is filling the earth once again, just as it was in Noahs’ day before the flood; and Lots’ day when the cities were destroyed by fire from heaven in the form of sulfurous meteorites.

Hebrews 11:7

We are to walk humbly and circumspectly before the Lord working the works of Him Who called us out of darkness into His wonderful light of (40) revealed knowledge.

Having remembered His Ascension soon Shavuot/Pentecost will be here. There’s just a few days left of counting from the Omer. (Day 44 this shabbat). It is a good time for us to prepare and test our hearts, if we haven’t already, so that we can be effective vessels, ready to serve our King..

The meaning of the Hebrew paleo pictographs tell us something:

Hey – Man with raised arms = Behold or, pay attention to what follows.

Yud – Arm and hand closed = a work or, a mighty deed.

Kaph – palm of hand = to cover, to allow, to open, to atone.

Lamed – shepherd staff = to shepherd, control, to have authority or the voice of authority.

This work or mighty deed is of course:

the mystery which Paul revealed in

There is no need of a rebuilt Temple/Hekel/Sanctuary for those who have His Ruach dwelling within… however all scripture must be fulfilled and the rebuilding of a 3rd Temple is in accordance with Gods’ plans to be carried out prior to Messiahs return.

Namely the situation described by Paul in

2 Thess. 2:3,4

This structure will not be for the benefit of our Heavenly Father or for Yeshua/Jesus return, but it is to fulfill prophecy as concerns the false Messiah and we are reminded by Paul that:

His Sanctuary is now is IN us.

The Sanctuary is the portion of the temple (and previously the wilderness tabernacle/mishkan); that was

set apart – Holy to the Lord.

Not the Holy Place but the Holy of Holies.

John 2:18 and 19 – 21. Jesus/Yeshua answered and said to them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.

In Greek, Temple is ‘ieron.

The Letter h is the accent ‘ mark and is called

Yes, because…

We are not to be like the Tabernacle/Mishkan building or the Temples of stone, where there was an outer court where sin was acceptable.

Our bodies are now the sanctuaries – Naos – the set apart place – His holy of holies….

This Naos/ Sanctuary is for His Holy Spirit to dwell/ abide.

Ruach HaKodesh.

The Holy Spirit of a Holy God cannot dwell where there is sin…

In the Old Testament the word

miqdas [ v’D.qim] from qds, holy,

implying a distinction between space that is sacred versus profane; commonly refers to the worship sanctuary (e.g., Exod 25:8), where the Israelites offered their various kinds of offerings and sacrifices to the Lord under the supervision of the priesthood.

[The] Sanctuary

is a term in the Hebrew Bible which refers to the

inner sanctuary of the Tabernacle

where God’s presence appeared.

According to Hebrew Tradition, the area was defined by:

four pillars which held up

the veil of the covering,

under which the Ark of the Covenant was held above the floor.

Tabernacle, Hebrew Mishkan, dwelling, in Jewish history, the portable sanctuary constructed by Moses as a place of worship for the Hebrew tribes during the period of wandering that preceded their arrival in the Promised Land.

 

Moreover, the English translation becomes even more confusing when interpreters translate two entirely different Hebrew words

(אהל and משׁכן, ohel and mishkan, H168 and H4908),

by using the exact same English tabernacle word.

In the case of Exodus 26:7, this translation is especially hard to understand, as the two different Hebrew words are used so close in the same sentence.

The tabernacle was the place of God’s revelation.

Our tent or home where we live is where our God is revealed.

The god that we follow is revealed in the tent/home and in the tabernacle, the place of worship.

It is relevant not only for the home/physical structure or building we live in; but also the home within ourselves that we create for His Ruach HaKodesh/Holy Spirit to live/abide/dwell.

Our physical bodies become the home of spiritual power; the seat of spiritual influence and it can be the opposite of holy as Jesus/Yeshua warned in

Matthew 12:43-45

“When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. 44 Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. 45 Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first.

Impure/unclean spirits call peoples bodies their house!

What’s in our OHEL?

Let the Lords words in John 14:23 be our desire and goal as Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.

The Tabernacle no longer served a purpose after the building of Solomon’s Temple in Jerusalem in 950 B.C.

His Holy Spirit cannot be where there is sin, so any where there is sin there is no presence of His Spirit/Ruach

This is recorded in

1 Samuel 4:21,22

Ichabod the glory has departed for the ark (dwelling place) of God has been taken 

Ichabod definition is — used to express regret for departed glory.

Ichabod was born after his father’s death. His mother gave him this name on her death-bed to indicate that the “glory (had) departed from Israel” (1 Samuel 4:19)

and it was what Samson realized when he tried to do as he had always done and in Judges 16:20
Then she called, “Samson, the Philistines are upon you!” He awoke from his sleep and thought, “I’ll go out as before and shake myself free.” But he did not know that the Lord had left him.

Sin is manifested rebellion against God’s commands and will for our life. It can be in many and take various forms in our lives.

For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. 1Samuel 15:23

Consider this for a moment that: In other words, God deems rebellion to be the same or equal to witchcraft and stubbornness is just as good as kneeling or falling down before and worshipping a statue of another religions god or any other idol for that matter.

Another translation says:

For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and presumption is as iniquity and idolatry. 

Rebellion definition is – opposition to one in authority or dominance. 

Rebellion, uprising, or insurrection is a refusal of obedience or order. It refers to the open resistance against the orders of an established authority.

A rebellion originates from a sentiment of indignation and disapproval of a situation and then manifests itself by the refusal to submit or to obey the authority responsible for this situation.

Sin must be dealt with because we cannot approach a Holy God with any sin in us.

Jesus/Yeshua said He was the temple/ sanctuary when He referred to Himself and that when His body would be destroyed He would rebuild it in three days. Speaking of His future resurrection and glorified body.

He had the Ruach/Spirit without measure because

He was without sin and

His Fathers Spirit could dwell within Him to the fullness.

Mishkan is the Hebrew word we translate into English as Tabernacle. 

The Mishkan was a Pattern, showing the children of Israel

the process to approach the Holy presence of Adonai/YHVH.

Sin has to be dealt with before that can take place because, God and sin cannot coexist.

The life is in the blood and sin requires a price to be paid and wages of sin is death.

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).

So a sacrifice must be made and blood has to be spilled

Life has to be forfeit to cover the sin. And that life must be innocent without sin and without blemish clean and acceptable to the Lord.

Jesus/Yeshua became that innocent, clean, without blemish life.

He willingly gave His life, allowing His blood to be spilled.

His life was forfeit to cover our sins once and for all time.

The Pattern of the Mishkan and later both temples,

show God’s redemptive plan

in the structure of the building

and in all the furniture within.

Also in the priests clothing

and in the format of each of the ways

every action was carried out.

Jesus /Yeshua was literally the fulfillment of the Mishkan/Tabernacle and the Temples.

Both were just as our bodies are while on earth:

temporary physical dwelling places for God’s presence,

His Ruach HaKodesh/ רוח הקודש ‎,

Ruach HaKodesh is God the Creator:

In the Tanakh/Bible, the words breath and Spirit are 2 different translations of exactly the same word: רוח /ruach.

Of the 348 times ruach appears in the Tanakh, it is translated 321 times as spirit and only 27 times as breath.

It would seem that the Ruach Hakodesh is divine inspiration or prophetic inspiration and is not the same as what is generally taught in Christianity. No place in the Hebrew Scriptures is there any reference to a spirit divine in itself, or Holy Ghost, as distinct from a spirit that comes from God to inspire human beings.

His Ruach HaKodesh is called the Comforter, which is the word used for the advocate who goes before the judge on behalf of someone to plead his case.

We are told in this verse that this pleader, who comes from the Father at the request of Yeshua/Jesus, will teach us all things.

Holy Spirit; the Holy Ghost

Hebrew: רוח הקודש, holy spirit

also transliterated ruacḥ ha-qodesh

is a term used in the Hebrew Bible and Jewish writings

to refer to the spirit of YHWH (רוח יהוה).

He fulfilled the pattern of the process to approach the Father’s presence with His Own Blood as the sacrificial atonement for all sin for all time, for who so ever will accept that that is exactly what He has done.

As High priest He entered into the

Holy- NAOS/ miqdash place –

the Holy of Holies

and placed His own blood on the

Mercy Seat of The Ark of the Covenant.

The kapporet.

This required Him going through the veil that hung between the Holy Place where the menorah/ showbread/ bronze altar of incense were and the Holy of Holies where the Ark was.

It is recorded that the temple veil/ curtain was torn at the moment of His death, opening the WAY to the father’s presence the Holy of Holies where the ark of the covenant was located.

I AM the WAY

His death was the acceptable sacrifice and we can now access God’s presence without any further sacrificial death needed and that means, no more priests are needed either; as

Jesus/Yeshua is our High Priest.

He became forever the WAY to the Father – the truth and the life.

The Life in His blood is eternal it will never die and He is alive for evermore.

Now we can also enter in through the veil

because it was torn for us.

The blood of bulls, goats, lambs and birds dries and decays; His blood contains the eternal nature of the God of all creation who sits on the eternity of eternities.

This is life everlasting, full of glory.

The blood continually speaks and cries mercy for us.

The Blood still speaks because it still has a voice.

Ever speaking from the Mercy seat of the ark… His blood covenant with us.

How is it possible? Because the very life of God is in The Blood of His Son.. His blood is still alive it has not dried up and never will, The life of the creator is eternal in nature so it is alive forevermore just as His Son is life everlasting and full of glory.

Hebrew Scriptures devote more time and attention to the Tabernacle, and everything contained inside the Tabernacle than to any other single thing. So it would seem we need to pay more attention to this pattern too…

Significant items found inside the Tabernacle would include

the Altar of Burnt Offering,

the Laver,

the Table of Showbread,

the Lampstand,

the Altar of Incense,

the Ark of the Covenant with

the Mercy Seat.

As we have already noted:

There is one major theme revealed in the pictures and numbers  of the Hebrew word pictures that we translate as Tabernacle. 

It is interesting to see that all the other mysteries contained in all the sacrifices, ceremonies furnishings, construction and architecture of the Tabernacle have their root in this one Eternal Truth. 

The Tabernacle was built on the earth

but

it is actually a Shadow, a Type,

of something everlasting in the heavenlies…

and it was shown to Moses in the book of Exodus!

Psalms 71:14 – 16

Our understanding mind may agree in mental assent, but how do we apply His Word to our lives?

Where ever there is a lack, that is the place to start.

The goal is… continually wait with hope.

Both of these increase as we use our mouths, (the paleo Hebrew letter P, PEY is a pictograph of a mouth), to confess His righteousness and salvation. Giving Him praise and thanks.

Though they are beyond numbering, we are to recount them all day long. It is in this way we increase our HOPE, as there is no such thing as praising God too much.

Empty praise deflates hope.

The key is to let Praise build up our HOPE, and then respond to the HOPE we have increased, by praising Him some more.

He alone is worthy of praise and as we recall His righteousness, we will be able to come into His might with courage, in the same way as David encouraged himself in the Lord.

This strength comes from Him alone. It’s not our strength and only with His, can we persevere and overcome.

Endurance is not gained by simply crying out to Him.

The difference is in having the fortitude, endurance and patience to praise Him even in the worst of circumstances and to keep adding to that praise. Ps 150:6 and 

As we turn to Him, Adonai-Elohym whether in joy or sorrow, our HOPE is always increased and with it faith is too. And our love for all that He is, is embodied in Him. For we know we can trust and hope in the man that died for us.

Psalms 148:7-14  and All of creation is always declaring to us God’s glory.

Hope is the spiritual essence of encouragement.

 

In Hebrews 6:19 – Notice another important point – as well as This

Hope – Tikvah- תִּקְוָה 

we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which enters within the veil,

The second part of the verse tells us this very important point… it is one which enters within the veil,

This one is hope and it, hope, enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain!

The hope, this anchor, enables us to

go beyond the veil which is now

torn in two

from TOP to bottom

and we can enter in to the inner sanctuary..

the Holy of Holies’/Kodesh haKodashim…

which contained ‘the ark of the covenant’.

Now in fulfillment of both the promise and the oath to Abraham taken by God that it would come to pass, we have been invited to this place that was never accessible before.

This is because Jesus/Yeshua went before us and operates as our High Priest before God having made atonement for us. What began in the wilderness Mishkan was concluded when from the cross, Jesus/Yeshua said.

It is finished. 

 “Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful” (Hebrews 10:19-23).

The reason we can enter boldly into the Holy of Holies is because Yeshua/Jesus is there -shammah – waiting to welcome us.

His Blood has removed all traces of sin making us clean (Hebrews 7:27; 8:11-12; 9:26; 10:10, 12, 14, 18).

As High Priest, He makes intercession before the Father on our behalf. (Hebrews 7:16, 25: 9:24; 10:19-21).  

He eternally holds the rank after the order of Melchizedek (Hebrews 5:6; 7:16, 24, 28) and has fulfilled the promise made to Abraham that through his Seed a great nation would be born (Galatians 3:16-17).

The Door through the torn veil…

As grafted in believers, we are the result of that promise.

All of this combined gives us the HOPE needed to enter into God’s presence.

This is the ANCHOR for our soul keeping us steadfast and secure no matter what life holds.

The HOPE behind the curtain is not only an ANCHOR for our soul, it also gives us assurance for our salvation; because He is that present and eternal High Priest after the order of Melki Zedek.

HOPE enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, Hebrews 9:7.

But only the high priest entered the second room, and then only once a year, and never without blood, which he offered for himself and for the sins the people had committed in ignorance.

This hope this anchor, ushers us into the very presence of God, through the DALET-door Jesus/Yeshua Himself, which He made in the tearing of that veil between the realms and into the Fathers presence behind the torn veil/door in the Holy of Holies. 

There were many regulations that first had to be met. The High Priest did not enter in with confidence. In fact, the High Priest had to take a censer of coals and incense with him so the smoke would cover the mercy seat to shield him from seeing it, lest he die (Leviticus 16:12-13).

This was Holy Ground because Gods’ Presence was there, His shekinah glory. šekīnah

The Shekinah is also mentioned (in Hebrew prayers) as an angelic essence of God. The two very similar common expressions regarding this angelic essence are “ta-chat kan-fey ha-she-chi-na,” (under the wings of the Divine Presence) and “al kan-fey ha-she-chi-na,” (on the wings of the Divine Presence). 

The divine presence of God actually descends into the physical world to dwell among humans. The original Hebrew word for this “divine presence” is the shekinah (שכינה).

Now, we have a HOPE,

an ANCHOR,

that brings us into the very presence of God, and an ANCHOR,

by it’s definition, keeps us

securely connected,

fastened, moored to Him.

 “Let us then approach the throne of grace chen with confidence, so that we may receive mercy racham and find grace chen to help us in our time of need” (Hebrews 4:16).

Hebrews 6:19-20. HOPE enters the inner sanctuary of CHEN behind the curtain and the Hebrew writer tells us that HOPE in the eternal life, is an anchor for us in the stormy seas of this life.

When darkness seems to obscure His face, we are to REST in His Eternal and Unchanging GRACE – Chen.

In every storm and through all the rough weather we encounter in our journey the anchor of HOPE holds firm within the veil where we are enveloped in His presence.

This is the place/ha makem of His true shalom and where we will meet face to face, the Sar Shalom/Prince of Peace and the Captain of our Salvation.

Joshua as an Old Testament type of Messiah, is the Captain who leads Israel into the Land, (and brought salvation to Rahab and her household the scarlet thread of HOPE a prophetic picture of Messiahs’ Blood.)

Yeshua/Jesus is the Captain of our Salvation (Hebrews 2:10), who brings believers today into His promised Rest.

A captain is one among a group who leads the others to achieve an objective. 

For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. Hebrews 2:10 C. S. Bible (Heb. 4:8, 9; Acts 20:32; 26:18).

As well as the author and finisher of our faith;

who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

As our Captain and familiar with fishing men and their boats; we can see that an anchor would be an appropriate picture, in terms of being an Early Christian Symbol.

Furthermore having HOPE will give us COURAGE:

The same courage Rahab had and because of it, her future in the lineage of Messiah was secured!

Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab” (Matthew 1:5). 

Then Ruth and Boaz had Obed – who was the father of Jesse – who was the father of King David.

Two women, Rahab and Ruth, who were genetically close to King David, were definitely not in God’s sacred Israelite bloodline. Rahab was King David’s great, great grandmother. Ruth was King David’s great grandmother. The gentile/heathens were included even then!

18 Having HOPE will give you COURAGE. You will be protected and will rest in safety. 19 You will lie down unafraid, and many will look to you for help. 20 But the wicked will be blinded.  Job 11:18 NLT

This statement,

HOPE will give you COURAGE,

is simple, so simple that we can mentally agree to it and dismiss it as simply common sense,

but in reality there is something tremendously powerful here!

First, we need to look at Hopelessness which is the opposite and makes us discouraged.

Interestingly scientists are now discovering that all depression can be sourced to hopelessness or helplessness, and we see once again that the Word of God clearly gives us the pattern of human behavior before finally science catches up.

In many areas of our lives we can lack the courage to make decisions. How can we get that courage? HOPE!

We must remember the hope of heaven,

the hope of Yeshua/Jesus’ return.

The hope that God’s Word is truth

and all His promises are proven trustworthy in our lives.

The Rabbis pointed out that the Hebrew word for truth 
– אֶמֶת (eh-MEHT) –
begins with the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet, א, continues with one of the two middle letters, מ, and ends with the last letter, ת.
This Biblical Hebrew word therefore encompasses the gamut of reality!
The word for real is אֲמִתִּי (ah-mee-TEE).
In Hebrew, the word for truth, emet (אֱמֶת), contains the first, middle, and the last letter of the Hebrew alphabet, indicating that…
truth encompasses all things and endures from the beginning (א) to the end (ת)!

This is the measure of HOPE that we have!

Because the word HOPE in Hebrew actually means to expect or, have some sort of expectation. This means we aren’t merely hoping it to be completed.

We’re 100% expecting it to be completed.

There should be no doubt anywhere in our mind concerning the Lord’s promises to us.

Meaning Of The Word Hope In Greek:

Elpizo– this verb means to hope. The verb is followed by three prepositions:
  1. eis- “on”. Ususally translated “in” and used in John 5:45:
“Do not think that I shall accuse you to the Father; there is one who accuses you—Moses, in whom you trust.“
  1. epi- “on”. Found in Romans 15:12, “There shall be a root of Jesse; And He who shall rise to reign over the Gentiles, In Him the Gentiles shall hope.”
  2. en- “in”.
“If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable.”
-1 Corinthians 15:19
These prepositions express that Messiah is the sphere and element where this ‘hope’ is placed. Since hope is a verb, those who walk in this hope are considered “hopeful” and have a character of hope.
Elpis- to anticipate, usually with pleasure.
As a noun it means, “favorable and confident expectation, a forward look with assurance.”
Elpis refers to the future and the unseen such as in Romans 8:24-25: “For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance.”
Elpis is found over 50 times in the New Testament. The apostle Paul was constantly talking about anticipating future events with joy, such as in these scriptures:
“And now I stand and am judged for the hope of the promise made by God to our fathers.”
-Acts 26:6
“For we through the Spirit eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.”
-Galatians 5:5
“if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister.”
-Colossians 1:23
“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.“

HOPE is a purifying power.

According to 1 John 3:3: “And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.”

and since the term HOPE in Greek means anticipation, in order to get a deeper understanding of them, we could read all of these scriptures replacing those particular words.

This would change our perspective on these scriptures and how we see it.

Paul was constantly talking about expecting or waiting with absolute certainly for the Lord’s promises.

God, the God of HOPE. Certainly, the Lord isn’t an undecided being. Instead, He’s extremely trustworthy and can be relied on. When we place our HOPE in God, we shouldn’t feel unsure of His actions and intentions. Here we can see exactly what the scriptures mean when it mentions the word HOPE.

The ANCHOR of our soul keeps us connected:

Romans 12:12; 1Thessalonians 5:8; Hebrews 6:18,19.

Jesus/Yeshua IS the ANCHOR To Our Soul.

He is our anchor and He holds us even through the darkest of nights, the roaring of the raging seas and in our hour of temptations.

Give all your troubles to Jesus/Yeshua who is the author and the finisher of our faith, (Hebrews 12:2,) because through Him we can have abundant HOPE, and (Psalm 31:24.  Be of good courage.)

Then that hope becomes an anchor for our souls. 

The main reason we need an anchor is to keep from drifting into things that would destroy us, especially during storms. Abraham had his storms as he waited on God.

Faith in God and in His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ/Yeshua HaMashiach, is the main anchor that we must have in our lives, to hold us fast, during times of social turbulence and wickedness, that seem to be everywhere today. This faith, this HOPE, this anchor, must be more than that of the generic dictionary definition.

The anchor of our souls is not a rope hanging in the air, waiting for our weak hands to grasp and hold. That would be no security, the links that hold us are unbreakable. 

The anchor of our soul is as solidly bound to us as it is to heaven.

Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love. 1 Corinthians 13:13.

 If faith, hope, and love are the things that last forever, it becomes clear that these are the things we should pursue with our lives:

Faith

אמונה – emunah

There are a number of Hebrew words used in the Old Testament which are related to faith or believing in God. These are: aman, batah, mibtah, hasah, galal, mahseh, yahal, rechats and emunah.

The Hebrew word aman means believe, trust in, rely upon, believe in, have faith or be faithful trust, have belief, believe, to be certain.

And love/emunah/aman

is the greatest because

Faith/אמונה – emunah

and Hope/Tikvah – תִּקְוָה 

can only work by love/Ahava/emunah/aman, and only show themselves by love/אהבה Ahava (Ah-ha-vah.)

Love is as the undivided perfection of sevenfold light.

The Hebrew word for “Love” is Ahava (Ah-ha-vah.)

But, love is more than just a word. 

It is an emotion that involves action and in Israel, where Hebrew is the national language, love is also a way of life!

The Hebrew has two main words for love, ahab and hesed.

Love in ahab sense is the closest to the English meaning and is usually refer to the love between people (husband and wide, parent and child, friends) or of people toward God. More rarely, it may also refer to the love of God toward people.

 

Recall that Faith and HOPE are precious stones of one color, (see part 1) as a ruby and a sapphire; but love, as He has been showing us throughout the scriptures, is a diamond of many facets.

HOPE in Hebrews is a faithful or persistent HOPE, and love is a faithful or enduring love. All three rely on the faithfulness of God.

When HOPE comes to fruition

it is

When Yeshua the HOPE of our salvation came to fruition at Calvary, The Father’s Desire, He became the tree/cross of LIFE to the world.

The HOPE deferred finally came

tiquah- expectation; hope was fulfilled.

 The desire of the righteous is only good, But the expectation of the wicked is wrath. Proverbs 11:23.

We will finally get to eat of that eternal fruit as overcomers! 

2:7 To him that overcometh, to him will I give to

eat of the tree of life,

which is in the Paradise of God.

this is the Hope and that

Hope is for now,

for today, we won’t need it in heaven.

For now we see in a mirror, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know fully even as also I was fully known. 

For now [in this time of imperfection] we see in a mirror dimly [a blurred reflection, a riddle, an enigma], but then [when the time of perfection comes we will see reality] face to face. 1Cor. 13:10-12 AMP.

Hosea 6:3 (KJV). 3 Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the Lord: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth.

And then we will KNOW…

HOPE is a golden cord connecting us there –  it helps us stand firm and strong. It’s the support to our weary arms, legs and head when tests and trials and spiritual buffeting is abounding; and when it does, GRACE CHEN does much more abound.

That place/ha makem of safety.

This journey through life is UPHILL, and HOPE lifts our viewpoint from the path where the next foot step will fall, carefully placed so we do not trip or slide off the narrow mountain trail/Way.

HOPE lifts our head and then we see the view from the high road, for its’ destination is the glory of His Heavens/shamayim. And when our focus is on the goal, we consider the condition of the road we travel with less significance.

Rough or smooth matters much less, yet He still requires our focus to be on two things. One is HOPE and the second, He never leaves nor forsakes us – He is ever present – Jehovah Shammah.

The hope of the heavens/shamayim, and the Kingdom thereof,

Hope thou in God – faith is the evidence of things hoped for.

Romans 5:5 now HOPE does not disappoint because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

We are a blessed people we have the Holy Spirit/Ruach HaKodesh, of the living God living in our hearts; and our faith in Him, gives us HOPE that that love shed abroad in our hearts, can be counted on to sustain us as long as we need it to.

There are times in every believers life that our humanity rises up with questions.

Has God forgotten me?

For all who have failed, fallen, sinned, all who have lost people and things and wondered at the events unfolding all around.

There is a HOPE to be found in an unusual person…in Zicharayah!

When Israel’s sins where so great, having turned from God, broken the covenant, rejected His ways, persecuted his prophets, did and celebrated what was the evil, (ra – out of harmony with God), and lifted/given their children as sacrifices on the altars of foreign gods. They had every reason to believe that their days as a nation were over, exile from their homeland which was destroyed, they sat and wept by the river, by the waters of Babylon remembering…

After many years in exile, a remnant returned to the land of Israel, only to find it a wasteland and Jerusalem in ruins. They were hindered at every effort in trying to rebuild it. They were discouraged and felt like God had forgotten them because of their unfaithfulness…

until a baby was born.

He was called Zicharayah, who would grow up to become the prophet sent to them in their days of discouragement and sorrow. Zicharayah is the Hebrew spelling of Zechariah which is more familiar to us.

This child was the sign in flesh and blood that He/God has remembered them even in their greatest fall and darkest times through sins of disobedience.

Even when they had forgotten God, He had not forgotten them.

He upheld His covenant, remembered His promises and with love and tender mercies He did not give up on Israel but encouraged them that they would be restored.

The prophet called ‘God has remembered,’ came with a message that they were to rebuild Jerusalem; and that it would be to this rebuilt Jerusalem that the Messiah would come, and He did.

Here is the key for all who have failed, fallen, sinned, who have lost and questioned in discouragement and dismay. Our answer is Zicharayah… remember his name and when we feel God has forgotten and abandoned us …Zicharayah.

It is a reminder of His promise, He has not forgotten us and when we repent and return to Him, His faithfulness to us will always be greater than our sins.

This is the reality and true meaning of the HOPE of the Bible.

the children of Israel sang this after they saw His act of deliverance through the Reed Sea in Ex 15:2.

The Lord is my strength and my song He has become my salvation.

God has remembered my salvation waiting (with hope)!!
