Moedim – מועדים

Continued from the last post where we looked at an overview of the Spring Moedim – Our heavenly Fathers Appointed Times/ Seasons/Signs.

The fall Moedim or last of the 7 annual appointed times/feasts begin in September in the Hebrew month of Tishrei.

The calendar months are shown in a chart below:

The spring feasts/moedim, clearly reveal the first coming of Jesus our Messiah/Yeshua our Mashiach:

Rosh Chodashim – The Biblical/spiritual New Year [Nisan 1]

Preparing for Passover – Spring – cleaning house

Passover Pesach – Celebration of freedom/deliverance

The Passover Seder – Nisan 15 (evening of the 14th)

Unleavened Bread/Chag HaMatzot – Messiah’s Burial – Nisan 15-22

Sefirat HaOmer – Counting from the Omer – Nisan 16 – Sivan 5; the countdown to Shavu’ot.

Firstfruits – Reishit Katzir- Messiah’s Resurrection; Nisan 17

Pentecost – Shavu’ot – The giving of the Torah at Sinai and the giving of His Ruach HaKodesh/Holy Spirit to the Church – Sivan 6-7

it is included here first, as the last of the Spring Moedim.

Its’ purpose was the Offering of the harvest – First Fruits in the month of Sivan, mid-May to mid-June, seven weeks plus one 50 days after the First Fruits of Unleavened Bread.

The Greek word for Pentecost meaning 50. It was symbolized by the basket, which at Shavuot would have held the wheat recently harvested.

Leviticus 23:15. And you shall count from the next day after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering; seven Sabbaths shall be complete; 16. To the next day after the seventh Sabbath shall you count fifty days; and you shall offer a new meal offering to the Lord. 17. You shall bring out of your habitations two wave loaves of two tenth deals; they shall be of fine flour; they shall be baked with leaven; they are the first fruits to the Lord. 18. And you shall offer with the bread seven lambs without blemish of the first year, and one young bull, and two rams; they shall be for a burnt offering to the Lord, with their meal offering, and their drink offerings, an offering made by fire, of sweet savor to the Lord. 19. Then you shall sacrifice one kid of the goats for a sin offering, and two lamb of the first year for a sacrifice of peace offerings. 20. And the priest shall wave them with the bread of the first fruits for a wave offering before the Lord with the two lambs; they shall be holy to the Lord for the priest. 21. And you shall proclaim on the same day, that it may be a holy gathering to you; you shall do no labor in it; it shall be a statute forever in all your dwellings throughout your generations. 22. And when you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not make clean riddance up to the corners of your field when you reap, nor shall you gather any gleaning of your harvest; you shall leave them to the poor, and to the stranger; I am the Lord your God.

This commandment to leave the corners and not to glean is the only commandment in Leviticus 23 that deals with something other than these special days. The reason for this command is that this reminds the farmer that the crop is not his, but the Lord’s; it also ties in with the story of Ruth and Boaz.

The Feast of Weeks is not on a specific date, but the start of it is determined by counting the weeks, seven weeks plus one day, which is why it is called Weeks.

As already mentioned, the Greek name is Pentecost, meaning 50, for the 50 days or 7 weeks plus 1 day. Counting the days between them ties the two First Fruits together, just as Yeshua/Jesus ties His resurrection, ascension, and the giving of the baptism of His Holy Spirit at the Feast of Weeks/Pentecost.

Exodus 19:1 tells us that in the 3rd month, the month of Shavuot, the people were at Sinai. This chapter tells how He gave the Torah to His people and for this reason Weeks/Shavuot, also celebrates the giving of Torah. The emphasis on Torah brings to mind the statement.

You shall have no other gods before Me.

This means we must leave ALL our idols behind, which is hard to do in this materialistic, Nicolaiton-like, Humanist, pleasure-filled age. In our fleshly carnal lives, old habits die hard, clearly seen with the children of Israel during their years in the wilderness; and today, in our focus on material things instead of being doers of the things Messiah speaks of in Matthew 25:35.

For I was hungry and you gave Me to eat, I was thirsty and you gave Me to drink, I was a stranger and you took Me in, 36. and I was poorly clothed and you clothed Me, I was sick and you visited Me, I was in prison and you came to Me.

Because in Exodus 19:8 all the people answering said, All that the Lord has spoken we will do and this was on Shavuot; this day is likened to a wedding, tying His people permanently to Him.

The Fall Feasts reveal:

the Messiah coming for His bride

the kellat Mashiach – Bride of Messiah,

the 2nd coming of our Savior,

the national conversion and atonement of Israel, God’s original-covenant people,

and – especially regarding Sukkot –

the final restoration of the earth in the olam habah/world to come:

7 FESTIVALS/APPOINTED TIMES/FEASTS

The Hebraic Biblical Spiritual Year begins with Passover/Pesach and the Hebrew/Jewish civil year in Israel begins in the fall. Preparations for these days begin with a 30 day period of repentance/teshuvah during the entire month of Elul.

The Fall appointed times/mo’adiym for Israel are outlined in Leviticus 23:23-44.

Then the next 10 days begin on Tishri 1 with the

Feast of Trumpets/Rosh Hashanah,

and end on Tishri 10 with the

Day of Atonement Yom Kippur

These first 10 days of the civil new year are called the

Ten Days of Awe – aseret ye’mei teshuvah: עֲשֶׁרֶת יְמֵי תְּשׁוּבָה.

In Hebrew they are also called:

The High Holy Days –

Aseret Yemei Teshuvah – Ten Days of Repentance.

This takes place during the first 10 days of the month of Tishrei, which is usually between late August to late September.

Days of Awe is the name of these days from

Rosh HaShanah to Yom Kippur,

these days are for each person to focus on repentance and on choosing to be a better person during the coming year than they were in the year just completed.

In Psalm 119:59 David knew he was not perfect: and we all need to be like him as he said, I considered my ways.

All of us must admit that since the beginning of time there has only been One perfect being Who walked the earth – our Messiah.

The Fall Appointed Times are intended to remind us each year that everything we say or do should be done for eternal reasons reminding ourselves that all our words and actions have eternal consequences and results

The Fall Appointed Times

can help us to understand an eternal truth.

Almost all believers are at least aware to some extent of the

Biblical Fall Holy Days:

Rosh HaShanah/Yom Teruah/Feast of Trumpets,

Yom Kippur/Day of Atonement

and Sukkot /Tabernacles.

Over the years, more and more churches have begun to add, or in some way recognize these days. 

In Judaism, these Days are referred to in terms of

repentance and asking for forgiveness

and then

having sins covered from one year to the next,

through the substitutionary sacrifice made on Yom Kippur.

As we read and study these days in the full context of Scripture, we learn that the most important part of them is not about the here and now, but about the eternal aspect. These days, as well as all of the other Appointed Times, were provided so that we would have a temporary symbolic reminder in helping us to be more focused on the eternal reality of our existence and future goal. 

These Appointed Times/Moedim, are to continually remind us that we are an eternal spirit/soul living temporarily in a physical body and to be more mindful of the Heavenly, not the Earthly.

Why is this important?

Because if we are living solely for the present, then our hearts are focused on the things of this world which include the snares and traps of the enemy in the form of addictions, fornication, greed, envy, gluttony, adultery and all other sins as we read in:

1 John 2:15-17

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world—the desire of the flesh, the desire of the eyes, and the boasting of life—is not from the Father but from the world. The world is passing away along with its desire, but the one who does the will of God abides forever. 

Also in Romans 8:7-8

For the mindset of the flesh is hostile toward God, for it does not submit itself to the law of God—for it cannot. 8 So those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

and Romans 8 doesn’t end there… it goes on to say in verse 9:

However, you are not in the flesh but in the Ruach (Spirit)—if indeed the Ruach Elohim dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Ruach of Messiah, he does not belong to Him.

This dichotomy between the temporal of the Flesh and the Eternal of the Spirit is also revealed in Galatians 5:16-17:

But I say, walk by the Ruach, and you will not carry out the desires of the flesh. For the flesh sets its desire against the Ruach, but the Ruach sets its desire against the flesh—for these are in opposition to one another, so that you cannot do what you want.

We can clearly see that the battle is not about being good or bad, it is about living for either the temporal or the eternal and as it says in Colossians 3:1-2:

Therefore, if you have been raised up with Messiah, keep seeking the things above—where Messiah is, sitting at the right hand of God. Focus your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.

The Fall Appointed Times are intended to remind us each year that everything we say or do must be done for eternal reasons because our words and actions have eternal results or consequences.

Sometimes called the Day of Memorial

The Hebrew name is ZichronMemorial or Remembrance,

More well known as Rosh HaShanah/ ראש השנה /New Year.

This time can be a good opportunity for us to remember all that our Heavenly Father has done for us and for each of us to respond to the ongoing call to teshuvah/repentance,

a time of reflection in preparation for remembering the Day of Atonement that Messiah is indeed our atoning sacrifice.

This time is sometimes referred to as the Feast of Trumpets/Yom Teruah, the Bible does not specifically call this a feast, and neither is a trumpet mentioned in the Hebrew text. The shofar/rams horn, is blown as a call to repentance.

Leviticus 23:23. And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 24. Speak to the people of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall you have a Sabbath, a memorial of blowing of horns, a holy gathering. 25. You shall do no labor in it; but you shall offer an offering made by fire to the Lord.

Tradition has noted this day as being the anniversary of Creation, which is how this day became known as Rosh Hashanah/New Year. Civil Years are dated from this day, while months are counted from Nisan, Passover/Pesach which is also the start of the spiritual new year.. The year 2022 is the Hebrew year of 5782 and moving into 5783.

Tradition also has the Day of Memorial as Judgment Day. Matthew 16: 27. For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will give back to each according to his actions.

The focus of synagogue services are prayer and repentance. There are services the first evening, the next morning, then a late afternoon service which has a custom called Tashlikh, meaning cast, during which sins are symbolically cast into the sea. This is based on Micah 7:19.

He will again have compassion upon us; he will suppress our iniquities; and you will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.

The whole congregation throws bread into the nearest sea, lake, or river. Cast your bread upon the waters.. Ecclesiastes 11:1 and Micah 7:19 says ..You will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea. The water needs to be flowing to represent the washing away of sin. The waters of Rosh Hashanah symbolize the creation of the world and its new beginning, as with each individual and the casting away of sin. Most important in this event is a call for forgiveness, for each individual to forgive everyone of everything each has against someone. 

True repentance cannot bear fruit until the repentant person forgives every one of every little thing and every big thing. Nothing can be held back.

Matthew 6:12, 14, 15. You must right now forgive our sins for us, in the same manner as we have completed forgiving everyone of everything, big and little, against us. 14. For if you would forgive all other people their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: 15. but if you would not forgive all other people, neither will your Father forgive your sins.

The Day of Memorial celebration lasts two days because it is so difficult to precisely determine the day for the new moon, the 1st of Tishrei, other months are less critical than Tishrei 1.

At meal times, round loaves of hallah/challah bread are a symbol of the ongoing cycle of life/chaim. Many dip pieces of bread or apples in honey which speaks of hope for a sweet year about to begin.

The Day of Atonement In Hebrew:

Yom Kippur – יום הכיפורים, Yom HaKipurim

Its’ purpose is for repentance and forgiveness of sins.

Also called Shabbat Shabbattone meaning Sabbath of Sabbaths, indicating the Holiest Day of the Year, and no manner of work is done on this day, Tishrei 10, which is between early September and early October.

The Scriptures referred to are Deuteronomy 6:4-9, 11:13-21, and Numbers 15:37-41. These are called the Sh’ma Yisrael, which means, “Hear, O Israel..”

Leviticus 23:26. And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 27. Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement; it shall be a holy gathering to you; and you shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire to the Lord.

  1. And you shall do no work in that same day; for it is a day of atonement, to make atonement for you before the Lord your God. 29. For whatever soul it is who shall not be afflicted in that same day, he shall be cut off from among his people. 30. And whatever soul it is who does any work in that same day, the same soul will I destroy from among his people. 31. You shall do no kind of work; it shall be a statute forever throughout your generations in all your dwellings. 32. It shall be to you a Sabbath of rest, and you shall afflict your souls; in the ninth day of the month at evening, from evening to evening, shall you celebrate your Sabbath.

It is important for Christians to recognize that even though we are made righteous by faith and by the blood of the Lamb, we are not to be presumptuous, because not one of us has been perfected and all need to improve during this coming year. It is this desire to be who our Heavenly Father wants us to be, that compels us to walk in daily repentance, however we are to be especially watchful during this time that His instructions have established a season of repentance.

The last of the 7 is Tabernacles/BOOTHS

The Hebrew name is Sukkot

and another English name often used is Tabernacles

the purpose of this feast/appointed time, is for the

First Fruits of the Fall Harvest

celebrated on Tishrei 15, which is mid-September to mid-October.

Leviticus 23:33. And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 34. Speak to the people of Israel, saying, The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the Feast of Booths for seven days to the Lord. 35. On the first day shall be a holy gathering; you shall do no labor in it. 36. Seven days you shall offer an offering made by fire to the Lord; on the eighth day shall be a holy gathering to you; and you shall offer an offering made by fire to the Lord; it is a solemn assembly; and you shall do no labor in it.

The Feast of Booths begins at sundown on Tishrei 15. Most Christians usually call this the Feast of Tabernacles, however the correct term is Feast of Booths because the Hebrew word used is Sukkot, referring to the flimsy shelters that are required, and because it has no relationship to either the tabernacle in the wilderness or to David’s tabernacle.

Booths are made, based on Leviticus 23:42. You shall dwell in booths seven days; all who are Israelites born shall dwell in booths; 43. That your generations may know that I made the people of Israel to dwell in booths, when I brought them out of the land of Egypt; I am the Lord your God. 44. And Moses declared to the people of Israel the feasts of the Lord.

These booths are made from palm fronds or leafy branches, and are not supposed to be very stable, meaning they are not good for protection. Men are to live in the booths during the entire time of the feast. Women have the option of living in the house or staying in the booth, although meals are to be eaten in the booth. Meals are shared with friends, neighbors, and especially the poor and the entire feast is celebrated as a family, doing everything together and the children are involved in every part of the celebration.

Nehemiah 8:17,18 And all the congregation of those who were come back out of the captivity made booths, and dwelt in the booths: for since the days of Yeshua (Joshua) the son of Nun to that day the children of Yisra’el (Israel) had not done so. And there was very great gladness. Also day-by-day, from the first day to the last day, he read in the book of the Torah of God. And they kept the feast seven days; and on the eighth day was a solemn assembly, according to the prescribed form. (Jerusalem Bible, Koren Publishing, Jerusalem).

On the first day the reading is from Zechariah 14:1-17 

It seems from scripture that Jesus/Yeshua celebrated Sukkot.

John 7: 2. And the Feast of Booths of the Jewish people was near.

John 7:10. And as His brothers went up to the feast, then He also went up, not openly, but in secret. Messiah honored every season of His Father and never suggested any changes to them and neither has author of the New Testament suggested changing any of these Biblical seasons.

Sukkot, or Booths, is the third First Fruits of the seasons being the Fall harvest. The first fruits are to be brought in a basket, as described in First Fruits during Unleavened Bread.

As the Feast begins, the trumpets are blown for the first time since the first of the month Elul, the month before Rosh Hashanah. Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are announced by the shofar, the call to repentance. The trumpet, however, is a call to rejoice, and a call to war.

In celebrating Sukkot each celebrant carries a collection of branches, called Lulav. The Lulav is taken to the Western Wall in Jerusalem according to the following Scripture: Leviticus 23:40. And you shall take on the first day the boughs of goodly trees, branches of palm trees, and the boughs of thick trees, and willows of the brook; and you shall rejoice before the Lord your God seven days.

Tradition uses Four Species as very important symbols. The two best known symbols speak of unity, which represents both unity of purpose and unity of the Jewish people:

The citron = the heart;

the palm branch = the spine;

the three myrtle leaves = the eye;

the two willows = the mouth.

The total number of items included are 7.

The palm branch and the three myrtle leaves are held in one hand, the citron and two willows in the other. These are waved to the North, South, East, and West to show that every corner of the earth belongs to God. This is a parallel to the 70 bulls offered which were meant to secure blessings for the 70 nations of the ancient world.

Next there is the etrog, having both taste and a pleasant aroma, this is to symbolize a person who knows Scripture and does good deeds. The lulav, a branch of the date palm whose fruit has a taste but no aroma, symbolizes someone who knows Scripture but does not do good deeds!

The myrtle, having no taste but does have an aroma, symbolizes a person who does not know Scripture but does good deeds. The willow, having neither taste nor aroma, symbolizes the person who neither knows Scripture nor does good deeds!

Anyone not in Jerusalem/Yerushalayim carry these Lulav to their synagogue and wave them while reciting Psalms 113-118. They walk in procession around the inside of the synagogue seven times, reciting prayers for deliverance. The basis for this is from when Joshua marched around Jericho seven times on the seventh day.

And the Lord will create upon every dwelling place of mount Zion, and upon her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day, and the shining of a flaming fire by night; for upon all the glory shall be a canopy. 6. And there shall be a booth for a shadow in the daytime from the heat, and for a place of refuge, and for a covert from storm and from rain. Isaiah 4:5,6.

The first day, from sundown to sundown the next day, is a Sabbath, but feast day Sabbaths are partial Sabbaths. The partial Sabbath is noted in

Leviticus 23:6.

And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the Feast of Unleavened Bread to the Lord; seven days you must eat unleavened bread. 7. In the first day you shall have a holy gathering; you shall do no labor in it. 8. But you shall offer an offering made by fire to the Lord seven days; in the seventh day is a holy gathering; you shall do no labor in it.

The second day is the Libation, which refers to:

pouring water from the Pool of Shilokh/Siloam on the altar.

Water from this pool was used with the ashes of the red heifer. 

On the third day, Ecclesiastes is read as a reminder of human frailties, a follow-up of Yom Kippur.

The sixth day is a cry for salvation,

Hoshea na rabah

Save us now! Let us increase!

This is a time for repentance, which is necessary for salvation, and a reminder of Yom Kippur. On this day during the 2nd temple period/Messiahs’ day, there was a procession through the streets of Jerusalem, singing Hoshea na! from Psalm 118:25.

Hoshea na,

written in Greek as Hosanna,

means Save us! Now!!

Some scholars say that this could have been the date of Messiahs’ triumphal entry, however, the date is not what is most significant. The important point is that all those at Messiahs’ triumphal entry knew about this practice and the full meaning behind it.

The 7th day is another partial Sabbath, called Shemini Atseret meaning Conclusion. This is celebrated back in the house. On this day the children pray, thanking God for a good harvest and praying for rain for the coming year for the next good harvest. John 7:37. And on the final Sabbath day of the feast Jesus stood and cried out saying, If anyone would drink he must continually come to Me and he must continually drink. 38. The one who believes in Me, just as the Scripture said, rivers of living water will flow out from his inner being. 39. And He said this about the Spirit, which those who believe in Him were about to take: for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

Other Scriptures confirming this are:

Proverbs 18:4. The words of a man’s mouth are like deep waters, and the fountain of wisdom like a flowing brook.,

and Isaiah 58:11. And the Lord shall guide you continually, and satisfy your soul in drought, and make strong your bones; and you shall be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.

Living water is a symbol of Torah – the Word of God.

The 8th day is a post-Biblical holiday called Simchat Torah/Joy of the Torah, which in Jerusalem/Yerushalayim, is combined with Shemini Atseret/Conclusion. Simchat Torah is annually the most joyful day, when the reading of the Torah is completed each year according to Deuteronomy 34:5-12; and the reading for the coming year is started once again.

Genesis 1:1-31. The first verses of Genesis are read immediately following the reading of the last verses of Deuteronomy to provide continuity, so there will not be a time that Torah reading is completed. This too hints at the continuing cycle of life.

The appointed seasons from Leviticus 23 are completed however there is one more Israelite/Jewish holiday, mentioned in John 10:22

This holiday is Hanukkah, and means Dedication. Although normally spelled Hanukkah in english, and sometimes spelled Chanukkah, the correct spelling is Khanukkah.

This is celebrated on 25 Kislev, which is late November to late December.

The Feast of Booths/Tabernacles completes the annual agricultural cycle and it’s a time to remember all that our Heavenly Father has brought us through, individually and collectively and encourage our brothers and sisters as we walk with Messiah.

Romans 12:8. or the one who encourages in encouragement: the one who shares, in sincerity without grudging, the protector or guardian giving aid in diligent eagerness, the one who is merciful in cheerfulness.

This is also a time for family and a time to look for the Messianic reign, to prepare His bride and ready ourselves for the wedding feast of the Lamb.

Revelation 19:5. And a voice came out from heaven saying, You, all His servants, and those who fear Him, the least and the greatest, (Psalm 115:13) must continually sing praises in honor of our God. (Psalm 22:23, 134:1, 135:1) 6. And I heard a sound like a great crowd and like a sound of many waters (Ezekiel 1:24, 43:2) and like a sound of strong thunders saying, Hallelujah, because our God the Lord of Hosts did reign. (Exodus 15:18, Psalm 22:28, 93:1, 99:1, Daniel 7:14, Zechariah 14:9) 

Let us rejoice and be glad and we will give Him the glory, because the marriage festival of the Lamb has come and His wife has prepared herself 8. and it was given to her that she would be clothed in brilliant pure fine linen: for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints. (Isaiah 61:10)

Then he said to me, You must now write: Blessed are those who have been called to the wedding supper of the Lamb. And he said to me, These are the true words of God. (Revelation 19:9) 37.

These are the appointed festivals of the Lord, which you shall proclaim to be holy gatherings, to offer an offering made by fire to the Lord, a burnt offering, and a meal offering, a sacrifice, and drink offerings, every thing upon his day; :38. Beside the Sabbaths of the Lord, and beside your gifts, and beside all your vows, and beside all your freewill offerings, which you give to the Lord. 39. Also in the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you have gathered in the fruit of the land, you shall keep a feast to the Lord seven days; on the first day shall be a Sabbath, and on the eighth day shall be a Sabbath. 40. And you shall take on the first day the boughs of goodly trees, branches of palm trees, and the boughs of thick trees, and willows of the brook; and you shall rejoice before the Lord your God seven days. 41. And you shall keep it a feast to the Lord seven days in the year. It shall be a statute forever in your generations; you shall celebrate it in the seventh month. 42. You shall dwell in booths seven days; all who are Israelites born shall dwell in booths; 43. That your generations may know that I made the people of Israel to dwell in booths, when I brought them out of the land of Egypt; I am the Lord your God. 44. And Moses declared to the people of Israel the feasts of the Lord. (Leviticus 23:37-44)

The offerings mentioned for these feasts include animal sacrifices, which no Christian would make. The Jewish people have not offered animal sacrifices since the temple was destroyed in 70 AD because the sacrifices can only be offered in one place – on Mount Moriah in Jerusalem. Even now, nearly 2,000 years after the destruction of the temple, the temple mount is still in the hands of heathens, since the Mosque of Omar stands directly over the rock where Abraham offered Isaac, which scripturally is the only place in the world that a Israelite/Jewish priest can sacrifice an animal other than the red heifer.

No Christian would ever need to offer an animal as a sacrifice because, even though Leviticus 17:11 says that the blood makes atonement, the blood of the Lamb of God, which is still being poured out for us Matthew 26:28, IS our atonement.

Although it’s not necessary to keep all the traditions, we do need to study the Hebrew Scriptures and familiarize ourselves with the facts on which the Israelite/Hebrew/Jewish traditions are based, and be a doer of everything Scripture requires.

Would it not be respectful to our Heavenly Father that each congregation carefully bring to remembrance appropriate celebrations and phase out the inappropriate pagan elements we have become accustomed to in our own denominational traditions? However, the most important thing is to bring Christians/believers to a better understanding of our Heavenly Father and His commandments and to observe the same seasons that Messiah Jesus/Yeshua HaMashiach celebrated.

Each season is significant in meaning for every life committed to serving Him and this is the timetable Messiah, every New Testament author, all the apostles and disciples followed.

This annual schedule is referred to as The Rhythm of Life and if we follow it is very clearly the culmination of a process.

First comes redemption at Passover/Pesach; then the purpose of redemption which was receiving the Torah on Shavuot; and, finally, these lessons are brought into our everyday lives when we find our joy in observing the commandments at Sukkot.

Additionally, Sukkot is the fulfillment of the process of Teshuvah/repentance and Yom Kippur/atonement, when we successfully escape out of the snares of sin.

Matthew 5:17, 18. Do not think that I came to abolish the Torah or the Prophets: I did not come to abolish but to bring spiritual abundance. 18. For truly I say to you: until the sky and the earth would pass away, not one yod or one vav could ever pass away from the Torah, until everything would come to pass. (Luke 16:17)

Maybe if we are to see the power of the 1st century ecclesia/church in our communities and nations today, we need to match that early ecclesia/church in holiness, love, unity, and obedience to what they knew as Scripture. Remember all they had was what we term as the old Testament and sometimes when we say old, we think its no longer important to our lives….and it is still very relevant according to Jesus/Yeshua!

In conclusion here is a brief history of the removal of our Hebrew Heritage and roots. It is very sad concerning the way the ‘Church’ has acted, however it is important every one who calls themselves a Christian should be aware of the historical facts.

The reason Hebrew Heritage/Jewish Roots were lost early in Church history is that many of our often-revered Church Fathers were anti-Semitic, and deliberately changed their celebrations and altered various doctrines specifically to make a complete break from Judaism. Justin Martyr, Polycarp, and Marcion were among those in the 2nd century who began the onslaught against the Hebrew/Jewish people and Judaism itself. In the middle of the 2nd century, Marcion was the first to write that the New Covenant had replaced all previous covenants – and at the time he was known as a heretic. John Chrysostom, known for powerful, sermons in the 4th century, gave a series of 17 extremely anti-Semitic sermons at the time when the pagan celebration of Ishtar, the fertility goddess, was made official to replace Passover/Pesach for the celebration of Messiah Jesus’ death and resurrection. Some had begun this celebration of Ishtar late in the 2nd century. Also, the Roman winter solstice celebration in honor of the god Saturn was established as the celebration of Messiah Jesus’ birth. In the 5th century Augustine brought Greek philosophy into Christian theology, which has continued to influence the Church to this day.

In the 4th century the new celebrations made an official separation from Hebrew/Israelite/Judaism and opened the door to violence against the Jewish people, who because of this often view Christians even today as “the enemy” and in light of history with good reason. It is a sad and shameful fact that over the centuries Christians have exceeded all other groups combined in the killing of Gods chosen people/Jews. These include numerous persecutions and massacres, with brutal attacks on entire Jewish villages, all through Europe right through to the Holocaust.

Research shows that in 1492 Ferdinand and Isabella forced all the Jews to leave Spain. These forced exoduses were common, with Jews moving from one country to another, virtually all over Europe, where every European country expelled them at least one time. Jews were forbidden to own land until they migrated to the colonies in American. The Spanish Inquisition is well known for cruelty to the Jewish people, where forcing conversions were imposed. It’s because of these historical events that the symbols of crosses and references to crusades are among the most evil things imaginable to Jewish people.

To understand the Hebrew Heritage and Jewish roots of western Christianity, we need to look at the Hebrew Scriptures; where among the 1st things the Church did to separate from Judaism was to change the Appointed Times/seasons of the Lord, which should be essential for believers to honor just as Jesus did. Recall the words of the Lord to Joshua in 1:8:

This Book of the Torah shall not depart from your mouth; but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written on it; for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success.

is the Jewish Civil New Year. It is also in remembrance of Breresheet/Genesis and the day of earths re-creation, or New birth, which can be likened to our new birth in Messiah Yeshua/Jesus.

It is the first of the High Holidays or

Rosh Hashanah is observed on the first two days of Tishrei, the seventh month of the Hebrew calendar. It is described in the Torah as יום תרועה (Yom Teru’ah, a day of sounding [the Shofar]).

The New Moon Day of the seventh month is called

‘Yom Teruah’ (יוֹם תְּרוּעָה).

This is oftentimes translated as the

‘Day of Trumpets’,

although it actually translates more like the

‘Day of Blowing,’

or the ‘Day of Shouting.’

Yom Teruah literally means the Day of the Shofar Sound.

It is also called The Feast of Trumpets.

It occurs six cycles of the new moon (i.e. six months) after Pesach on the first day of the seventh month in the Biblical calendar.

It marks the end of a long, hot, and dry summer and the beginning of the fall festivals.

Most importantly Yom Teruah is a day of

shouting and alarm

to remind men that Yom Kippurim is near.

“There are only 10 days left”

for the wicked to repent of their wickedness

and join themselves to True Israel.

Each month throughout the year the reminder,

the warning cry, has been blown;

the seventh month is coming

and soon

it will be too late to repent.

Both form parts of the traditional full greeting of

Apocalypse Of The Teruah’s Cry

Rosh Hashanah is the start of a New Year in Israel,

It actually means “Head of the Year.”

And it will be the Hebrew Year

since creation, which really gives a clearer understanding of where we actually are in Father’s timeline.

Rosh Hashanah is celebrated for two days. It is the start of the 3 Fall/ Autumn, Appointed Times of The Lord/Feasts /Festivals.

A look at some fascinating facts, mysteries and scriptures connected with Israel’s Fall/Autumn Appointed Times.

The day on which Rosh HaShanah is celebrated is Biblically known as Yom
Teruah (Day of the Trumpet Blasts)

The traditional Rosh Hashanah greeting is

‘shanah tovah’

which means,

good year!

The word U’Metuka

(and sweet) is sometimes added.

When is Rosh HaShanah?  

The Hebrew date is always the same — the 1st of the month of Tishrei.

The dates of Jewish holidays don’t change from year to year; however, a Jewish year can change in length from 353 to 354 or 355 days long.  A Jewish leap year can be 383, 384 or 385 days long and because the Jewish year is not the same length as the year on the civil calendar, the dates of holidays seem to shift quite a bit; consequently that results in the Israels High Holidays falling anywhere from early September all the way into October.

So what date is the holiday on the Gregorian calendar? This year, Rosh HaShanah begins at sunset on Sunday, September 9.

Brief history explaining the reason for the two calendars and why are they different in length?

The civil Gregorian calendar is based on the solar cycle of 365 days, five hours, 48 minutes and 46 seconds — the amount of time it takes the earth to make one complete rotation around the sun.

To correct the problem of those extra hours, an extra day is added to February every four years.  This keeps the equinox (when the sun shines directly on the equator) occurring on generally the same date every year: March 19 or 20 and September 22 or 23.

The Jewish calendar is a luni-solar calendar.  It considers three things: the yearly rotation of the earth around the sun, the daily rotation of the earth on its own axis, and the monthly cycle of the moon around the earth.

Each new moon cycle begins a new month or Rosh Chodesh.  

However, there are approximately 12.4 lunar months in every solar year.  In other words, a lunar year is about 11 days shorter than a solar year.

If the Jewish calendar were a strict lunar calendar that had 29.5 days in a month, every 16 years or so the Fall Feasts would be held in Spring, and Passover would be held in autumn.   

To keep the Jewish holidays and appointed times in their correct seasons, every two or three years the month of Nissan begins earlier and an extra month is added.  This 13-month year is called Shanah Me’uberet, literally, a pregnant year.

The additional month of Adar 1 (also called Adar Aleph) is added before Adar, which is designated Adar 2.  

The addition of the extra month guarantees that Passover (Pesach) and the wheat harvest feast (Pentecost / Shavuot) occurs in the spring.   

Between AD 320 and 385, Hillel II, the Nasi (Prince) of the ancient Jewish Sanhedrin, established the calendar that is used today which follows a 19-year cycle, realigning the lunar and solar calendars.

In this system the extra month is added on the 3rd, 6th, 8th, 11th, 14th, 17th and 19th years of the cycle.  The current cycle began at the start of the Jewish year 5758, which occurred on October 2, 1997.

The Gregorian calendar, however, was created in 1582 by Pope Gregory XIII and proclaimed the official civil calendar of Britain and the British colonies of America in 1752.

The Feast of Trumpets is also the anniversary of the creation of man. Adam, the first human being, opened his eyes to a world that appeared to have always existed.

The ancient Hebrew text ‘Book of Formation’, teaches that there is more to the universe than time and space. There is a soul.

Whatever is found in the universe’s soul is found somewhere in its space. And whatever is found in space, is found in time.

In the soul of the universe there is a consciousness from which all consciousness extends.

All the cosmos came to be because Hashem, (The Name), chose to invest His very essence into a great drama: the drama of a lowly world becoming the home of an infinite God. A marriage of opposites, the fusion of finite and infinite, light and darkness, heaven and earth.

We would seem to be the players in that drama, the cosmic matchmakers. With our every action, we have the power to marry our mundane world to the infinite and unknowable.

Apocalypse of the Teruah’s cry? A horn that cries?

How can an animals horn cry out?

It’s the cry IN the sound of the shofar!

It is part of hebrew thought that the first time a shofar was heard in creation was when God created Adam. God blew Adam’s soul into him, and the sound it made was the sound of the shofar. Just like God created mankind on Rosh Hashanah, on the anniversary of that day, God is recreating us.

Could it be said that we are God’s shofar?..

The sound of the shofar being blown is the sound of creation.

The breath represents the soul, and the instrument represents our bodies.

The shofar reminds us that when our bodies do the will of our soul, there is song and harmony.

Spirituality is represented by music because music sounds even more beautiful the more notes that are being played, unlike too much speech.

Do each of our souls have a mission to add to the harmony of the world?

The shofar is supposed to change us. It’s sounds are intended to invoke that nagging feeling inside of us that asks us to live a deeper, fuller life in the year to come.

There is a difference between simply hearing it and then going about our lives, and really listening to it and having its wailing sound transform us.

Even though it is not the anniversary of the creation of the entire universe, but that of the human being, it’s the true beginning, as all of time, as we know it, begins on this day.

Why? Because on this day, more than any other, the Hebrew thought is we are empowered to change lanes, to switch direction, to alter and transform our destiny and thereby the destiny of all of creation if as we believe everything is connected!

Through us, truth and goodness can become a flaming torch of light, which was once obscured in darkness and ignorance.

All is defined by destiny. Even the past is redefined by the arrow of its future. The very existence of that time that held that past is re-created once it achieves its hidden destiny. A destiny that only each of us can reveal.

For those whose focus is on Rosh Hashanah, the here and now that is all that matters; for it represents the first day of all of time, future and past.

In biblical times, the shofar was used to tell the people that the King was coming.

What is the correct etiquette when a King comes?

Most likely, we want to impress the King so we make an effort to perfect ourselves and our surroundings.

It was also used as a signal that war was coming. What is the strategy we adopt when war comes? Probably we prepare our weapons, form an army and we prepare to fight.

The shofar was also a tool to help break down barriers. When the shofar was blown at Jericho, the walls came crumbling down. This is why it is also known as the 

Even though sometimes we change from the inside out, it is more often influences from the outside that really have an impact on us. Is it possible that the shofar is necessary because it is a powerful tool outside ourselves and helps us to improve ourselves on the inside?

Our actual bones are supposed to resonate with the sound of the shofar. Do we have the ability to not only hear what the sound is reflecting but to absorb its frequency and let it stir deep within our souls, so much so, that there is an effect on our physical bodies??

Throughout life, our soul is constantly being affected by outside influences: fashion dictates how we dress, advertisements tell us what we like, the media affects how we think, and the people that surround us dictate our reality. Yet, how often do we stop and really listen to the sounds that surround us? How often do we connect to what is inside of us and who is above us? How in tune are we with nature and the spiritual aspects of our lives? How much do the sounds of the outside world drown out the sounds of our soul?

With a new year comes a clean slate, the ability to correct our mistakes, with the power to transform into a newer and better self.

The shofar is our call to action – an alarm!

The power is within us. Once we hear the call, it is our job to make it real.

And so too, every morning, we are all reborn from a night-time taste of death.

Since Father created earth by His spoken word and creation is still in motion and at every moment—in the smallest increment of time—every particle of the universe is still being projected into being out of absolute nothingness, as it was at the very genesis of all things.

The feast of trumpets is the season of Teshuvah – the season of repentance/return.

Teshuvah is the Hebrew word from the root word SHUV meaning to return.

Hosea 3:4 -5 Jeremiah 3:22; Isaiah 30:15.

The great mystery is that in ancient times God has set up this entire age as a Hebrew year. The Feast of Tabernacles/Sukkot, starts the civil new year, however on the Sacred Calendar it represents the end of the year, not the beginning.

So the season of repentance comes at the end.

Teshuvah has a double meaning; as well as returning to God, it can also mean physical return. So the days of Teshuvah contain another secret, that of an apocalypse, a revealing, that Israel must return to the land of promise and to Jerusalem.

Teshuvah is not just for a week for a season, but a lifestyle.

We are to live our whole lives with Teshuvah hearts and the greater the Teshuvah, the greater will be our continual returning to Him.

Teshuvah signifies that the time of Israel’s repentance and their subsequent return to Messiah will happen at the end of the age. So in a way the Hebrew year waits for Israel to repent and turn, Teshuvah, in order for it to come to its conclusion. This is why we are to pray for Israel to return to Messiah and why the Appointed Time WILL surely come.

The Rabbis/Teachers compare the coming Messianic era to the full moon, the hope of redemption and His coming is compared to the new moon.

The Talmud, (compendium of rabbinical teachings and discussions), teaches that when the Messiah returns, the moon will cease to diminish and remain as large and bright as the sun.

So while the celebration of the new moon reminds us of His coming, it also reminds us to renew our awareness of His Presence in our lives, and to push forward into the growth and change that He has for us, becoming all He created us to be.

In truth, we need only awaken the spark of God within our own souls. That spark within us connects with the Infinite Light of God above. The circuit is complete and a new cycle begins. For this reason we are called His children, and we call Him our Father. We are created beings, yet there is something of us that lies beyond creation. It is the One who sustains the universe who breaths within us.

On Rosh Hashanah, God is addressed as both

Father/Avinu/Avinou

and

King/Malkeinu/Malkaynou

Father, because there is something of Him within each of us.

King, because He dictates what will be and what will not.

Indeed, as we choose, so He will dictate.

A King speaks and his word is fulfilled. God speaks and the world comes into being. 

When we speak the words of Torah/Scripture, they resonate in the heavens and beyond. Spoken words have sound and frequency which is part of creations makeup. Why? Because they are His words, and they are on the rebound to Him. He spoke, He said and He watches over His Word to perform it and it will not return to Him void. Is.55:11

The central observance and widespread custom of Rosh Hashanah is sounding and listening to the blowing of the shofar on both mornings of Rosh Hashanah. The shofar is made from a hollowed-out ram’s horn. It produces three ‘voices’

tekiah (a long blast), 

shevarim (a series of three short blasts) and 

teruah (a staccato burst of at least nine blasts).

The shofar is blown at various intervals during the Rosh Hashanah morning service. When all added up there are 100 ‘voices‘ in total.

On Rosh Hashanah, we cry out from our very essence, from our spirit man, with the call of the shofar; Father replies, sending His very essence towards His creation.

The shofar cries out from the raw essence of the soul, to its Beloved, the One who is the raw essence of all being. It’s not a human voice but rather the howl of an animal horn and when its sound is heard it is so primal that the mind ceases to think and the heart skips a beat, the throb of life suspended for a moment in time.

That is the moment that heaven and earth connect. The base nature of our souls here on earth reach up to touch the divine essence above as He reaches down and the RE-union is made. Our souls press upwards bursting through the veil into the heavenly dimension, escaping the constraints enforced upon it by our earthly bodies.

For there are many things that are important even essential for us and often words flow out in a burst of emotion, rich words, expressive and vibrantly imbued with life.

And then, there are things that shake us to the very core – challenging all that we have known and believed.

Things that do not wait for the right words or the mind’s permission, in this case, the mind cannot fathom them, the most expressive words could not contain them. These are the things that can only break out in a cry, in a scream, and then fall into silence.

This is something of the sound of the shofar: From the very core of our souls our hearts crying, ‘Father! please don’t leave – let your presence remain always!’

Another significance of the shofar is to recall the Binding of Isaac which also occurred on Rosh Hashanah, in which a ram took Isaac’s place as an offering to God;

as we remember Abraham’s readiness to sacrifice his son, and pray that He should stand by us as we pray for a year of life, health and prosperity.

Rosh Hashanah is the start of the Yamim Nora’im (High Holidays).

At the time of writing, the Holy Day, (Yom Kadosh), of Yom Kippur, is just a week away and the people will gather in synagogues for 25 hours of fasting, prayer and inspiration.

The days in between are known as the 10 Days of Repentance,

or the Ten Days of Return/Days of Awe

and they are an especially propitious time for teshuvah, for returning to the Father.  Before the

Yom Kippur is followed by the joyous holidays of Sukkot and Simchat Torah.

Parallels of Khataah – The Day of Atonement – Yom Kippur

The sacrifice that took away guilt and which was also the guilt, called the Asham. On the day of atonement there was a sacrifice that took away the sins of all Israel. It was a sacrifice of a parallel nature and contains a parallel mystery. It was called the sin offering it was the offering that took away sin.

Messiah was the old covenant/testament mystery revealed in the renewed covenant/testament, it was a shadow of Him as He was and is THE sacrifice that takes away the sin of the world.

In Hebrew the sin offering is called the Khataah. It has a double meaning. One is, sin offering, and it also means the sin itself.

As Messiah is the mystery, He is the Khataah and the same as in the mystery of the Asham.

(Asham = the sacrifice becomes the very thing it removes, in this case sin, more explanation to follow).

Messiah had to become sin itself in order to fulfill scripture. 2Corinthians 5:21 He made Himself who knew no sin to be sin. Matthew 1:21.

Both the sacrifice and the sin are called Khataah meaning that, not only does the sacrifice have the name as the sin but the sin has the name of the sacrifice that removes the sin.

Every sin has or carries the name of the sin offering and if Messiah is the sin offering, the Khataah, then every sin has His name, for every sin has the name of the sacrifice.

So in the Hebrew language every sin we’ve committed, repented of, been forgiven for and is now under His Blood, bears His name, the name of the sacrifice. So therefore He owns our sin. They are no longer ours, they belong to Him now, so we cannot keep them for He is the owner of them His name is on our sin.

Isaiah 53:7 – 11; two Corinthians 5:21

One of the sacrifices offered in the temple was called the Asham.

It was for a specific purpose it removed the guilt of the one who offered it up.

Asham means guilt offering.

However it also means the guilt, which seems to be a paradox, yet they do in fact go together.

How can the guilt and the guilt offering connect in this way?

Because the criteria of the Asham, the guilt offering, was that it could only take away the guilt of the one offering it by first becoming the guilt. A full representation and identification of it. The priests action of laying hands on the Head of the sacrifice was a physical indication of this.

As in Isaiah, he prophesied that Messiah would be crushed, pierced and wounded for our transgressions and sins. However in the Hebrew original text it says more and declares that His life would become an Asham.

 The same word Asham, used also in Leviticus. Here it is referring to the animal sacrifices offered up by the priests to redeem the guilty.

In Isaiah it is not referring to animal sacrifice but of a human life, that of the coming Messiah.

Here he tells us Messiah is the Asham and the Asham is the Messiah. This indicates that not only does He die to remove our guilt but He becomes the guilt itself. Looking at His death, we see both the sacrificial act and the guilt itself. The guilt of our guilt literally nailed to the cross\tree

The conclusion is therefore, if Messiah is the Asham and the Asham is the guilt, when the Asham dies so does all the guilt and shame.

All have died and been removed, gone forever and why He could say these words from the cross,

And very timely the old year is finished too and now on Rosh Hashanah, the traditional start to the holiday feasts, begins with two loaves of round challah, (bread). The round shape symbolizes the cycle of life and the crown with which God is coronated every year as King of the Universe.

To add sweetness to demonstrate the wish for a sweet new year, the challah is dipped in honey before taking the first bite. 

Many people eat pomegranates on Rosh Hashanah, demonstrating their wish for as many merits as the pomegranate has seeds. It is commonly said that the pomegranate has 613 seeds, corresponding to the 613 mitzvahs in the Torah. However, this has yet to be empirically demonstrated by seed counters worldwide!

Rosh Hashanah emphasizes the special relationship between God and us: our dependence upon God as our creator and sustainer, and God’s dependance upon us as the ones who make His presence known and felt in His world.

…. Jesus/Yeshua Had Not Come… there would be no New Year according to the Gregorian calendar.

So-called because it was introduced in October 1582 by Pope Gregory Xlll, as a reform of the Julian calendar. It’s a solar-based calendar of 365 days, it was only adopted by Britain and its colonies 260 years ago! The biblically based lunar Calendar is the one still followed in Israel.It is 2018 only because of Jesus!

The year is dated because of His birth and even non believers reference His coming every time they say or write the year!

However if Jesus had not come our calendar would be as the calendar still is today in Israel counting from creation. According to that the year is 5778 but it would still be B.C.(Before Christ) or (AM = Anno Mundi meaning years since creation).Remembering that in Israel, the fall appointed time of Rosh Hashanah means “head of the year” and that’s why it’s called The Jewish New Year (also known as Yom Teruah and often translated as Feast of Trumpets.)

This is not at all like the New Years celebrations in the western world. It occurs on the first day of the 7th month of the year.

When the Israelites were in Egypt, the Lord changed the beginning of their year from the fall to the spring month of Nisan for Passover/Pesach to be the start of the spiritual year. (Exodus 12:1-2)

However, since Jewish tradition holds that the birth of the world took place in the fall, they kept the New Year observance where it was. So in effect, they are celebrating the world’s birthday on Rosh Hashanah and have a second beginning in the Spring Appointed Times. (The Seasons are represented as Cyclical not linear.)A very interesting point is, the Hebrew year 5778 coincides with 2018 on the Gregorian calendar and is significant because it was in the year 2018 BC (or AM) that God made the first covenant with Abraham. (This was 70 years after Abraham’s birth in 1948 BC (AM).

Then we see the new independent state of Israel was established by the UN in 1948 (Gregorian calendar), so 2018 will also be a 70 year time frame (or a generation, see Psalms 90:10) Just imagine, if Jesus had not come, the Bible would end at Malachi or if read in chronological order it would stop after 2 Chronicles.It would probably only be available in the Hebrew language and maybe still only on kosher scrolls.The complete set Hebrew Scrolls Tanakh

Among other things too numerous to mention or count: There would be no New Testament, no churches or denominations, no choirs, Christian charities, no Christmas trees, no carols and symphonies, no one would be born again and there would be no evangelists, no missionaries.No ‘communion’ (as in bread and wine celebration) outside of Passover, Pesach.This was celebrated as part of the commemoration of their liberation by God from slavery in ancient Egypt and their freedom and rebirth as a nation under the leadership of Moses. There would however still be the Holy Land and the children of Israel, the tribes and their descendants and the Jewish people. The term having come from the tribe of Judah – Yehudi – Judahite and shortened to Jew. It is written that all tribes will want to say they are from Judah collectively and not so much as individual tribes an example is Mordecai in the book of Esther, he was from the tribe of Benjamin but was known as Yehudi.That Hebrew language would be still intact as it is today and so is their faith that one day Messiah will come as promised in prophecy.

There would still bethere would still beTorah, Prophetic, Poetic and Historical Writings.

The history of God’s plan since creation would still be as it is.

How important is the old Testament then!

How foundational.

How significant are the Hebraic roots of our faith for they would stand even if Messiah had not come yet.

It makes one wonder if we would have converted to the faith of the Old Testament Patriarchs?

For if Jesus had not come we would be numbered among the heathen lost! 

Still the Jewish people would be, and are still, serving the God of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob, celebrating the seven annual feasts, preparing and rehearsing for His promised appearing and keeping their covenant commandments.So what are we doing? Have we disregarded the Old Testament foundation in favor of ‘Penthouse’ believing? Are we guilty of thinking that somehow we are more ‘entitled’ by our new Testament faith in Jesus?

He came in fulfillment of the Jewish Scriptures not as a replacement, not instead of, but in addition to.A world without Jesus/Yeshua would be a world without born again believers, both Messianic Jews and Christian believers. No Christmas holiday or carols, no Turkey’s, presents or all the worlds commercialized accessories and distractions.

However we would still have the greater part of the Bible and could live by its instructions and guidance.The biggest obvious consideration is that our sins have to be paid for and that by a blood sacrifice.A life for a life. And the life is in the blood, so an innocent must die for each and every individual.

If Jesus had not come, believers in the God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob would still be continuing to offer the necessary sacrifices today.

HoweverAnd by His life and death and resurrection, He fulfilled the promises in the bible of a coming Redeemer. One man’s life blood – God Himself, paid the price for our sins. Once for all and no more individual sacrifice is necessary.

However do we really comprehend it?

Do we appreciate it?

Do we understand it?

And do our lives reflect our appreciation and gratitude for what He did?

Or have we just grown accustomed and complacent with our faith and too easy-going in the gift of grace for the righteousness/ right-standing before the God of Heaven and earth?Do we have a deep remorse and hatred of the way we were before He graciously accepted us into the beloved. We are grafted in by His compassion He is calling the Goyim, the heathen, to be His own.Is living for our self the way we show Him our love? Is building our own reputation and kingdom/empire really part of His plan for us?

We aspire to be something, a somebody, to make a name for ourselves. It didn’t work out so well for those who tried it on the plains of shinar. Self-deception is subtle and is an easy slippery slope, the biggest problem being we don’t believe we are deceived or that we can be.

We help God out, because it’s taking too long or not going the way we want, we put words in His mouth, to justify our actions and decisions, and twist the truth of Scripture to fit our not so straight path.We use the tools of the world and its commerce to fulfill desires based on covetous, selfish ambition and aspire to a comfortable way of life.

Whatever we choose to believe will never change truth, for He said, I am the way the truth and the life.

For believers it should be His way or no way.

His way is clear, we are to live our lives as Jesus did and do the works of Him who called us and saved us.We are to preach the good news, make disciples, visit the prisoners and the sick, bring healing to them, deliver the oppressed, set spiritual captives free, feed the hungry, give to the poor, house the homeless, which of these did we do today? Which of these did we do this ChristmasWe are to bind up the brokenhearted, raise the dead, calm storms.

Christianity is not just a free ticket to heaven to then go ahead and live as we please. Grace is not free and neither is salvation, for we are set free to serve Him and further His kingdom, not ourselves in our own.If Jesus had not come we may have something of a legitimate excuse, that we don’t know any better but He did come and so we are without excuse.

As we begin 2018 Anno Domini on the Gregorian calendar take a moment to think how it would be if Jesus had not come!Time is one of the greatest gifts we have been given. What we do with it will have a huge impact on our final destination.

This time of year people make resolutions to improve their lifestyles, let us start learning to live in His presence, and to operate out of His shalom, where love abides and faith matures.

If God was in a hurry He would have not said over 2000 years ago, ‘I’m coming soon’.

He exists outside of our time and space and that is hard for us to comprehend.

We live our lives by the clock and without realizing it, it can bring us into bondage.

But in due season. Gal 4:4

But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, Romans 5:6. For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

We will be accountable for how we spent the time we have been given according to 2.Cor. 5:10

 It is a phrase that has the connotations of ‘satisfaction.’ Abraham died as a man at peace with himself, at peace with God and at peace with the world. He was contented with all that God had done with him and in him, at an old age that was good and mature and content. In verse7 ‘Now these are the days of the years of Abraham which he lived.’ For it implies that he had lived every day to the full in the will of God not one day was wasted of the days that had been given him. According to The JPS Torah Commentary on Genesis, the meaning of this phrase in Genesis 25:8 is “old and contented.” The commentary continues, “Such a summation of a life is found with no other personality in biblical literature. The phrase describes not his longevity, which is otherwise mentioned, but the quality of his earthly existence.”

And also in Job 42:17 so Job died, being old and full of days /years.

The civil year of 5778 according to Israel began in October at Rosh Hashanah and the spiritual new year according to scripture, begins in April at Passover with the sacrificial death of an innocent lamb.  As we go forward into ‘2018’ and continue in 5778, let any resolution we make begin with a grateful heart of thanks that HE CAME; and let the number of this year reminds us how long ago that was.Let’s try to remember that, ‘New Beginnings’ come from the Grace of God, not from dates or resolutions.

That they come from His Mercies, that are new each day. Not the day itself.

Let the next year be 365 days be FULL according to the will of God for us.

It may not be what we wanted to hear but its what we need to hear!

It’s a rallying call to the troops, time to renew our commitment to the Lord. It’s an alarm bell to wake up the sleeping ‘ecclesia’, we are the ‘called out ones.’

For the day is far spent.. Luke 24:29 Now is the time to let Him in, to abide with us and your salvation/redemption is nearer now than when you first believed. Rom 13:11

The times are serious and so is God!

Then as we realize Jesus did come, let’s make this year one where our resolution is; to spend more time in His presence and in doing His will. Fulfilling His plans and purposes instead of our own.

Let’s not be too busy this year. God is obviously not in a hurry, He has no daily rush hours. He is not driven, desperate or in a panic and looking for a way to make things happen!His presence is now, believing in faith is for now.

Today is the day of salvation, so share the gospel with that person you keep meaning to!

He is the ever present God. I am that I am.

He is Jehovah Shalom.

He moves, acts and abides in Shalom. Where there is nothing missing or broken.

He doesn’t rush through life.

He is life.

It is impossible to live life as we were meant to live it, if we are too busy rushing around.

We are too busy because of the decisions we have made, that brought us to where we are at this moment.

So this year we have an opportunity to make decisions that will enable us to be less busy. It’s our choice.

Choose this day.. choose life.  The treasures revealed from His Word, are not simply for information but include messages to be lived and ways to develop a relationship with the Father.

They are to be experienced which is the most important aspect. Let God impress upon our hearts the precious truths which are essential to the life of every believer who truly desires to follow Jesus/Yeshua our Messiah.

Lets pray that we comprehend all that it means to be a disciple. And as we learn about Him, let our central focus be, to know Him and the power of His resurrection in our personal relationship with Him, for we are required to apply His words to our lives, daily.

Thank God Jesus Came!
